Put me on the playoffs bandwagon. The journey that is this season is going to be very valuable to these players.

• they are learning to set their emotions aside for the time they are called. It may be short, but it is their chance and if they don't step up, it's lost. I can't think of anybody on the bench that hasn't exceeded my expectations when they have been called upon. If they can do so unselfishly without disrupting locker room chemistry, we will know we have some very rare personnel.
• they are learning how to push through things when they are dead tired, both mentally and physically. As long as they learn from every misstep, we improve without having to spend $.
• If they pay attention, they will look at the teams that are ahead of them and gleaning from them. Being there is not the same as tape.
  The playoffs teach them to make a goal and succeed. Getting a taste makes you hungry for more. As long as you are hungry you are traveling.

  Some people think GS has arrived, but they are focused on being the best ever and dynasties. Our players will have to crack their code in order to beat them. The first step is to get to know them. If that is via sweep, so be it.

Sometimes we don't realize how close we are when we quit. I see no signs of quitting on this team, so I have hope.

Jazz are 17-22 and (desperately) holding onto the 8th seed - despite having to rely extensively on what many around here have called the "worst bench in the NBA". Guys like Hood, Lyles, Burke, Neto and Withey have all had to grow up to keep pace.

Last year, after 39 games, the Jazz were at 13-26 and would go 6-8 heading into the All Star Break before busting out after the Kanter trade. They were 17-33 after 50 games. Bet that their record this year will be better. . .

Gobert, Favors and Hayward still make up one of the best front courts in the league (when healthy). And the Jazz still need to find consistency on offense and defense from the 1&2. If they can get healthy and start playing defense like they're capable of. . . they're going to be a hard out for anyone. If they make a move at the deadline to get better, AND get healthy. . . they could put up a real fight. Even if they lose, it would benefit them the long run IMO.

Do you think there has ever been a team that squeaked in to the playoffs and then got better next year or does making the playoffs automatically mean that you level down?

You seem to be saying that 8th seed = level down every bit as much as jamezz is saying 8th seed = level up

Yep. Flawless logic is that making the playoffs makes you much worse and getting the 12 pick in the draft makes you a contender

One thing I know for sure. The jazz won't finish with 29 wins. And 29 wins won't be enough to make the playoffs.

Jamezz saying that playoff experience could be valuable to the jazz is not the same thing as automatically magically levelling up.

Depends.
If the jazz get swept and lose every game by 20 and the 10th pick ends up having a career like dirk nowitzki then I would rather miss the playoffs.

If the jazz go into the playoffs on a winning streak with everyone healthy, including exum, and then win a couple games in the playoffs and have a good showing and the #10 pick turns out to be kirk snyder type player then I would rather make the playoffs.

I'm arguing that jamezz isn't necessarily wrong and neither are you.
There are too many variables to say for certain one way is right and one is wrong.


Actually I'm not even actually arguing anything. I just saw a couple of posters ganging up on jamezz and being jerks to him simply because his opinion is that playoff experience could be good for the jazz and I decided to come to his defense.

I think I'm having a hard time reconciling these two statements then: "Making the playoffs doesn't level up the Jazz". "Playoff experience is really valuable to the Jazz".

My whole point here is that if the Jazz are going to go into the playoffs as a losing team (which is probably going to happen), 4 *** kickings by the Warriors isn't going to gain much, if anything. I'd rather just skip that and draft 5 spots higher. I disagreed with the notion that the "playoff experience" in that scenario was very valuable at all. That's what the "level up" metaphor refers to.
