Omer Asik

asik is a player I've always wanted to see playing alongside kanter. but losing a scorer center like big al and gaining a defensive center like asik won't improve jazz's chances to be a playoff team when we are struggling that much on the offensive end. relatively speaking.

Considering that bad defense and a frozen offense are probably the biggest problems this team has, and the guy leading the team in minutes and salary either single-handedly creates those exact problems or exacerbates them, I completely disagree.

Asik's RFA status makes things difficult. There may be better players to go after in terms of team need. Asik will compete with Kanter for minutes, too. But there is definitely merit to the idea. I really like Asik.

Omer Asik is already one of the best defender big men in the league, however he is sooo f...... limited in the offensive end. I love him , but i think he is too luxury for being our 4th big men. He should be a starter in a team like Miami (who was 4 good players in other spots) or should be the first back up big men in a contender.

And lets make it clear, our major concern isnt the big man rotation, but the lack of talent in perimeter spots. Lets just move Big Al, and get a good back up big men for really cheap and shift to our more important needs like PG or SF

This thread assumes that Jefferson will be dealt in a cost-cutting move that brings back a pick and a player. (I've suggested a trade with the Bucks that brings back a first-round pick and Mbah a Moute, an elite defensive SF, but don't let this suggestion bog down the discussion here). If such a move were to happen, the Jazz would need to find a fourth big to fill out the roster, but one who would be comfortable with and excel in a backup role.

I'm suggesting that we think about restricted free agent Omer Asik. He rebounds the ball well, plays good team D, and sees the game better than most guys with his size.

I'd envision the front court minutes divided as such:

Favors: 32
Millsap: 20-25 (with 7-10 at SF)
Kanter: 20-24
Asik: 20-24

So, are you interested or not? Why? How much do you think Asik is worth? In other words, how can we pry him away without overpaying?

Here's a look at a very speculative depth chart:

Harris*/Lillard or Marshall(?)/Watson or Tinsley (yes, I understand that Watson is under contract and Tinsely is not)
Hayward/Burks/Rivers(?)
Mbah a Moute/Millsap/Hayward/D.Miller(?)
Millsap**/Favors
Favors/Kanter/Asik

Shooting is still a problem with this roster, but we fix that in the following draft and free-agency splash (ahem, Harden). But, this is a solid roster from a defensive standpoint, and that is my first desire.

*Harris deal comes later after our (hopeful) PG has gotten his feet wet.
**Extension coming!?!

"Asik sees the game better than most guys his size"

Really?

Is he even on an NBA roster anymore?

Asik fell off a cliff. He was playing promising ball coming out of Chicago and into Houston. Defense-first passing big man. Too bad for him.

basically, every single trade idea you ever made has sucked.

wrong again. That's obvious even from the threads you bumped.

What then? 99% has sucked. dude, look around, there far more bad ideas here from you, than anyone on this board has ever put out there, ever. You are worse than homeytennis. That's the truth.
