Paying TB will improve his trade value? Only if he plays a lot better than he has over the last 3 years. He is not going to have much value no matter what you do. He is a known entity, his upside is limited and his flaws (and strengths) are exposed. Some team who needs shooting and does not care much for defense might give you something, not much. Certainly nothing close to a first round pick or a starter-quality player.

So given that dubious assumption, why do you forego minutes & player development opportunity for Neto and Burks (assuming the triple wing is back when Burks is back)?


Not worth it -- at all. Bench him, use him for an occasional offensive spark, then move him for whatever you can get.
 
So what i am hearing is the trade talks have had a negative impact on trey and he has kind off given up? I wonder if something has happened behind the scenes?
 
Locke in his column isn't saying anything earth shattering. Jazz are thin on the bench and Hayward and Hood aren't elite enough to overcome that. They're only "good" 2 of 3 games, and both of them have to be good to win. So they'll generally win 4 of 9 games as currently constituted.
 
Well, it was pretty obvious I think that Trey has been wanting out of Utah for a while now. The fact that he has stepped up his play this year, until recently, is a credit to his tenacity. It's understandable, I think, that he would have a letdown that he wasn't traded, and the fact that the Jazz are honoring his request and have picked up Mack and are not playing him now, also makes sense to me. He's not part of the Jazz's future and he doesn't want to be, so he'll probably be riding the pine most of the time, unless Quinn sees situations where he thinks he will help win a game.

And it won't hurt his trade value to just sit him. Jazz have shopped him for 2 years. No one wants him for anything of value. I'm sure Utah could have gotten a 2nd-round pick at any point. Probably still can this summer. But who cares? Jazz have a bushel of 2nd's that they'll be wasting or selling. Trey's value at this point was a throw-in to make salaries match. Even that doesn't matter much this summer with every team having cap space.

But it does provide comedic relief to see his helicopter parents just spin in the wind.
 
It sucks that we had such high hopes for Trey. Felt like a great get when we traded up for him. We don't know how the rest of the season shakes out at this point, but this is about defense, so Trey is the odd man out for now. I do think Trey is very determined. He greatly elevated his offensive game this year. Defense is harder for him, but there is a slim chance he finds a way to be more effective there and finds a way back to grace. Otherwise I think he finds a niche somewhere.

ST, you know that the head coach is talking to the press ten times more than a GM right? So who would do the better shopping? Of course the decision is not solely Snyder's. I'm not saying that. But still, assuming that a coach would have no effect in the process of shopping an unwanted player and trying to make the franchise look like they actually value him and will sell him high is not very realistic. Do you agree with me?

He is a very smart offensive player. He should have been less selfish from the start. That was the perfect role for him. And he did not work hard enough on his shots. And perimeter D is very important in the backcourt to make the difference for this team. Trey failed that. He would be a very good PG even a starter, if he cared for it enough, was motivated enough.
