What's new

This season was a failure

How is this season not a waste? 1 player got much better(Lyles) 1 player improved a bit (Hood) Everyone else got worse or stayed about the same.
I now have serious doubts about Snyder. This team fell apart when it should have pulled together. in 2 weeks they went from a hopeful 6 seed to a 9 seed. The odds that the Jazz would make to playoffs were over 90% just 2 weeks ago. Pathetic.

I am still hopeful the Jazz will turn into a perennial contender in the West but your post set me back a little. I can't disagree with you.

I tend to grade a season in a Pass/Fail type of mentality. I said that were some good things that happened and never called the season a waste.

But it is not that black and white.

- Jazz improved win total
- Jazz had several players progress in various areas
- Jazz played some big games and learned a lot of hard lessons
- Jazz chocked in some of those big games, especially late
- Jazz missed the playoffs
- Injury bug walloped this team
- Jazz improved back up PG play
- Failed to improve the bench

Overall I'd rate this season a B- when it should have been an A-. Good but disappointing.

Yeah I'm discouraged, I won't lie.

DL harped on about our "internal arc of improvement" all last offseason. Even with the injuries to Dante, Alec, Rudy and Favors, I still expected more than 40 wins.

Really no excuses next season. And I'll be frustrated if we completely stand pat like we did last offseason.

Season was a great success, IMO. I think they landed about where they were aiming for (considering the injuries)..

Way too many youngins showing out for me to have the audacity to complain..

y'all don;t really know what bad NBA basketball looks like if this is what you're complaining about..

The way the season ended was maddening but there are a couple of truths that the downers seem to be forgetting:

- Once Dante was injured, we flat out knew this team would struggle to secure the 8 seed, and that's EXACTLY what happened.

- When you have without a doubt the worst bench in the league, can you really expect massive win improvement when your starting rotation is constantly in flux due to injuries? When we're healthy, we're good, when we're not, we're bad. Until depth is considerably improved, that's who we are.

To tell you the honest truth, I'm surprised we didn't take a step backwards with all that went on. I'm not pushing the panic button until I actually start seeing Quin go backwards in win totals.

I agree with doubts about Snyder. I have no questions about his player development skills, but some guys are just not made out to be a head coach. I am not good with stats, but I would love to figure out a way to see basket conversion out of a time out. From just my eye check the Jazz were horrible on calling a time out to slow an opponents run and then not converting out of that time out. I may be way off, but that was a real sore spot for me this year and caused us to lose a lot of the close games.

Not a complete failure, but a big disappointment. Will we ever see what this team looks like full strength?

I think Lyles was a revelation and is the major source of hope from this season. Hayward was really good... Hood showed flashes... Favors did his ever so slight improvement that he does every year.

Overall I rate this season a meh. Some of that was self imposed... some just bad luck. Maybe this season was more like a whatevs... somewhere between meh and whatevs.

Failure? Lol. We showed the league that this is a 70 win team w Kevin Durant and a refilled bench. You think barely missing the playoffs w out Exum n Burks plus about 60 missed games combines is failure? GTFO. We are getting KD and we are competing for the Conference next season. With any luck, and I think DL has shown more than adept at this, we will get a stud in the late rounds of the draft who will push us over the top.

Did I mention Hood will be a all star soon? Inconsistent you can kiss my bloody fungus filled ***.

Wait, what?

You got issues

I love Hayward. I would love to keep Hayward. People wringing their hands about his free agency leading up to this point were being premature. But at this point, the Jazz are on the verge of losing a max player for nothing if they don't seriously pursue trading him this offseason. Time to cash that chip in (in addition to other assets/players) for a sweet prospect or an established, legit star.

Standing pat cannot be an option now.

Unfortunately, the treadmill is the worst place to be, and that's where it looks like the Jazz are.
