Millers want more money

As long as they promise to source all products and labor locally I have no problem with this. If they are purchasing Chinese made goods or California manufactured solar panels then a BIG NO! I am not letting Greg Miller walk around pretending a tax break is good for us regardless of details. I mean, the 25 year repay really is a pittance but why are they selling it so hard then? What do WE get?

Build away. Shouldn't we request the give a sh&* of winning a championship in return of the tax $? Why build if we don't even make an attempt at building a championship team? Jazz are never in the talks of signing the big name unrestricted free agents out there. When was the last time we inquired about a big name to join? They want to overhaul the arena or build a new one, and thats fine. If we are not going to try to contend, what is it all for?

My vote does not count in reality, but I would like to say that I agree with the idea of reimbursements being mutual. What are the people paying for? Another 20 years of mediocrity? Make it "all money back with 25 years of interest in case of zero championships" and we can start to talk. It's a good way to save money. Also a good way to make the cash flow through right routes. Either way, the state wins.

I pretty much hate the idea of subsidizing sports teams like this. They make their money, the surrounding businesses make their money, the tax collector makes their money. Why ask for a ****ing handout? The reason why is because city and state governments hand it out. It's dumb.

Many people in Utah could care less if we had a pro basketball team. To them it isn't worth a dime. Why do they need to subsidize this high end luxury?

Crony Capitalism.

Why do the Millers deserve a property tax break and no one else? It's a joke. Let's bail out the one business that afford to be bailed out and put the tax burden on those who can afford it least. "Trickle Down." Ha ha. What a scam.

Green, I know you are a smart man. Do you really not understand how RDA's work or are you just grinding your axe?

City's big and small all across the country use RDA's on a variety of projects. The reason City's keep using them is because they work. True, There are examples of when they do not work, when the city dumps multi millions into a boondoggle. But this is a modest investment for a local company that has shown a commitment to the community and is regionally important. This seems like a no-brainer to me, if I was on the RDA board I would vote a solid YES.

Socialism for the rich, rugged individualism for the poor. This is the America conservatives love.

It's funny to me that Utah fans want to bitch about a pro sports team looking for a tax break when Sacramento, Oakland and San Diego all faced losing their teams (Kings, Raiders and Chargers) minus a MAJOR financial commitment from the community.

There is NO OTHER pro sports team coming to Utah. Probably ever. They are fronting the cost themselves and then asking for a tax break to recoup some of the expense. Less than a $1 million per year tax break for a team that is heavily invested in the local economy. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Sometimes I think people around here like to bitch because they like to bitch. Seattle would GLADLY take our team away from SLC in an effing heartbeat.

The RDA should request some sort of street engagement along either 400 w or N Temple. Everyone that gets a tax kickback from the RDA has to go through the design review process and I don't think it's too much to ask.

That being said half of the land in SLC is non taxable(UofU,LDS,State and federal governement, etc)and Utahns have very suburban attitudes. SLC can't afford to lose either the tax dollars or the fans coming into downtown if the Millers decided to rebuild in Sandy.

They can have it if we get to the salary cap this year.

Small markets have to do this stuff to keep their teams. Sucks but the alternative is worse.
