If you go by DRPM, he was roughly neutral on defense. So compared to his poor offense, defense was where he stood out.

I'm not saying he was a great defensive player, but I think he did pretty well, all things considered. He has a lot to improve though to even be an ok starter.

He was also the top PG for staying in front of his assigned player. With his length this is the best thing you can ask of a perimeter defender.

With a defensive rating of 109 and the Jazz better defensively with him off the floor with their two best units? They were much better with Trey in their top starting 5 defensive rotation than with Exum. It's too bad 82games.com deletes stats every year so I couldn't throw them up one more time.

Man how can you argue with that logic. Guess your right Trey is a much better defender. Thats why he stayed our starter and helped us win so much. We were all wrong, Corbin was the GOAT coach and if we kept him his pet Burke would be an all-star PG with great defense...

Is Whiteside a worse defender at the Center position than anyone else on the Heat last year including Joe Johnson. Those defensive stats... So useful with an individual player...

Most of my optimism comes from what he did against Marcus Smart. Kids got talent, hopefully this injury didn't screw him up too much.

I am pretty optimistic about the injury. I havent seen this type of injury mess anyone up his age in over a decade. Most come back stronger since they work on things they never would have but obviously should have been.

Couldn't care less about 1 SL game. But surely Exum was better than a neutral defender. He's not the mythical defender he is made out to be on JF, but he's great at staying in front of his man and bothering shooters with his length. Definitely a plus defender.

Exum's hoops future is highly uncertain. The range of possible outcome is so wide you could drive a MAV through it. lHe could be everything DL and QS believe or he could be not much better than his rookie year. I'm bullish but it is folly to think this is predictable with any certainty. Should be fun to see his career evolve.

It's pretty obvious Exum sucked. He stood in the corner doing nothing all year. He might develop into a very nice player, but he showed very little his rookie year.

Offensively you are 100% correct.

Defensively he showed he was a very good player on that end of the floor.
