Official UofU homer thread

OK, back on topic...

Who's worried? I mean, outright, seriously, worried? Anyone? Or is confidence supreme?
The only year I was supremely confident was 2004 and the only other year I was confident in was 2008.

Yes I'm a U fan so I do think they're going to win (minus the Bret Ratliff game that J12 mentioned, I was also at the NM game when Brian Johnson got hurt) but that is from my bias heart and does not mean I am ever confident they will win because it is just a wild game almost every year. That doesn't mean I don't smack talk a good game when I'm having fun with Y fans. Also this year between some personal things going on in my life, with Sitake now being the HC, this year has been the most relaxed I've been during the week and leading up to the game, heck it took me until Tue before it really took hold, I mean I knew the next game but it really didn't register that much until Tue. It also could be a little bit because of the PAC 12 and I am really thinking about that USC game as well, so just a combination of things probably all adding up.

I will say this, if a big IF the OLine can step up to their loft expectations and the DLine can come close to living up to their even loftier expectations, then I believe the U should win.

So, BYU and Utah just met mere months ago in the Vegas Bowl. What has changed since then?

QB: BYU is better or the same, depending on how hard you've hitched your wagon to Hea...I mean Mangum. I'll go with better. Utah is better as well. So, how does this compare to the Vegas Bowl? Either you believe Mangum is significantly better than Wilson or you don't. If you believe Mangum is significantly better than Wilson, then Utah has gotten better and has improved the most since Vegas.

Verdict: Equal or Utah has improved the most.

RB: Joe Williams vs Jamaal Williams. Jamaal has improved BYU. Joe is the same. BUT, McCormick has improved Utah. Has Jamaal's improvement been greater than Troy's? We will find out this weekend.

Verdict: Wash. Utah had no depth at RB. Now they do. BYU had decent runners, but now they have a legit #1.

WR: BYU has gotten worse. They lost their 2-3 top receivers from last year. They do have some talent, but not as good as what they had in Vegas...yet. Utah is better.

Verdict: Utah is better.

TE: BYU might have a solid pass catching TE. Their TE's suck at blocking. Utah has legit starting TE's.

Verdict: Utah is better.

OL: BYU has taken a very large step backwards. They lost Matthews and Wilcox. They are starting three players with zero division 1 offers. Utah did lose Lutui, which was a blow. But they added 5 star LT Bolles. At worst, Utah is just as good.

Verdict: Utah is better.

DL: BYU has lost Kaufusi and Tuiloma. Utah has...3-6 NFL players on their DL.

Verdict: Utah is better.

LB: Utah has lost Paul, Norris and Whittingham.

Verdict: BYU is better.

CB: Utah was better before, has brought everyone back, and is still better.

Verdict: Utah is better.

S: Utah did lose Tevin Carter. But, Carter lost his job to Hansen when Hansen was healthy. Nacua isn't as good as Williams, and if you believe Whitt and Scalley and Hansen is better than Carter, then Hansen is better than Hannemann.

Verdict: Utah is better.

ST's: Wishnowski just broke Hackett's single game punting record. Andy Phillips is Andy Phillips. Boobie Hobbs will break off a PR for a TD or two this year.

Verdict: Utah is better.

So, since the Vegas Bowl, BYU has improved in these areas: QB, RB. They are worse in WR, TE, OL, DL, CB. They are a wash in LB and S.

Utah has improved in QB, WR, TE, CB, S. They are worse in HB, LB. They are a wash in OL, DL.

I don't get why BYU fan is so confident. I haven't even gotten into home field or coaching. But Ty Detmer will save the day, right? Taysom Hill will run for 300 yards, right?

green, I acknowledge your analysis and think it absolutely makes sense. I also question why a BYU fan would be supremely confident heading into the game. Everything you're pointing out is seated in firm logic.

But it should be noted that I'm asking who amongst us is supremely confident, not BYU fans. Even knowing all that you point out, I can't be supremely confident. I just can't. It's a rivalry game. Anything can happen.

I don't blame you for being supremely confident. I'm glad someone is. I would love nothing more than another 54-10 blowout.

As a BYU fan, I say that no BYU fan has any right being confident going into a game with Utah. Obviously, we have a different coaching staff and with them, increased optimism in the rivalry. However, until I see a BYU team actually beat a Utah team on the field, there's nothing to talk about in regards to positional match-ups or what have you prior to the game. BYU has been better on paper--according to local media--in many games before and lost in abhorrent and embarrassing fashion.

Forget about having the right to be confident going into a game against Utah, I don't even know how it would be possible to be confident going into a Utah game.

Jamaal Williams has 300 carries in college football without losing a fumble. Dude has never lost one at the college level. I'm convinced he's going to fumble 3 times tomorrow.

Seriously, that would just be par for the course. Hopefully the Sitake era brings with it a little less of the uncharacteristic suicidal happenings. We might still lose but hopefully in a way that's not like "geez guys wtf are you ****s doing out there?"

Green apparently knows some really confident BYU fans. I just don't know where those confident BYU fans have been for the last 10 or so years.

Green is hysterical. If there were ever a ute fan with zero credibility on anything BYU related, it's green

Majority of posters there think byu has been the better team each of the last 5 losses, and expect them to win each game. A small minority think Utah was the better team the year they won 54-10, but most think that game was a lot closer than the scoreboard suggested lol.

I love reading that site tbh.

I'm definitely not denying their existence. They're all just very stupid.

The 54-10 game was cray. I don't think the scoreline was indicative of the relative level of each team. Utah was definitely better that year. Just, IMO, not 44 points better. Utah was closer to like 24 points better. I should delete that last sentence as it doesn't matter. Oh well.

I'm going to go balls deep into that forum

Hahaha you know it's gone bad when you're arguing you're team is 24 points worse, not 44
