People actually think Lyles Gobert backcourt is better than Favs Gobert? Wow! I've seen it all. I seriously wonder what some of you are watching.

Don't get me wrong, I am totally with you. But I can see the other side of the argument. I can see it being less about Lyles better than Favors and more about fit together. But like I said, I'm all for the two towers approach. You can't replicate GS.

Until he learns to be passable on defense, Trey Lyles needs to remain a bench player. I love the guy, but I cannot stomach any more years with matador big men. We need to be done with that.

Well SI put him as the 31st best player, so Id say he is pretty highly rated.

Maybe, but with fans, even our fans, people just don't understand what a unique talent he is. Remember all the crap people thought they could trade for Favors when he was rumored to be "on the market?" Hell even some of our fans were ready to deal him for the #3 pick this year in a two player draft. Two-way power forwards don't grow on trees folks. . .

Lyles is 20, Favors is 25. The offensive potential of a team with 4 floor spacers compared to 3 floor spacers is enormous.
Clogged lane in the NBA = death sentence. You gimp the effectiveness of any slashers on your team, which on ours is a bunch: Burks, Hayward, Exum, Hood (sorta)
Also Favors is a good defensive player, but not close to great. His defensive RPM the last 3 years: 1.80, 2.18, 1.61

Ultimately, I think it comes down to this. Is Favors good enough we want to try and buck this?

Consequently, when we had Favors, Gobert, and Exum clicking and playing healthy we had a historically great defense. Not better than average or league leading, but HISTORICALLY great. I'm not really interested in abandoning that entering into a three point shooting contest. We don't have the guys to play that game at a top of the league rate. I'm interested in holding teams under 90, where we win almost every time.

It could come down to a philosophy more than raw 3 point attempts. Snyder wants ball movement, and has been teaching it to an extreme the last two years. The Jazz have led the league in passes but last (or near last) in assists. What does that say? They are passing but no one can get an advantage. Would that happen with 4 floor spacers, no, I think you would see much better results. At any rate, the Jazz never rush into anything. Hell they let Tyrone Corbin coach an NBA franchise for 4 years. They will likely try to extend Favors for the max to keep him as an asset, and bring Lyles along slowly.

It's a good point, but I think the pace we play at also limits the number of assists. Also, having crappy point guard play limits assists. Jazz easily had the worst point guard rotation in the league last year. Both of those things will be better just on the personnel that we added. You can space the floor all you want, but when that kickout goes to Neto or Chris Johnson your assist rate is going down.

Kicking it out to Neto for an open three was a good thing
