Honest question. Does Harris do anything to help our team?

his average GmSc (a calculation for how much one contributes in the game[more explanation at the bottom]) since joining the jazz is a very uninspiring 10.7. a GmSc of 10 is the average score for bench players.

al jefferson for instance, over the same 12 games devin harris has participated in, has a GmSc of 20.9, essentially doubling the contributions.

Harris's PER since the trade is a 15.5 (7th on team behind gasp.. miles)
Harris's opponent is scoring 7.4 more points per game than he is
the jazz are being outscored by 2.6 when he is on the floor

so i'd say no, not really helping us.

***Game Score; the formula is PTS + 0.4 * FG - 0.7 * FGA - 0.4*(FTA - FT) + 0.7 * ORB + 0.3 * DRB + STL + 0.7 * AST + 0.7 * BLK - 0.4 * PF - TOV. Game Score was created by John Hollinger to give a rough measure of a player's productivity for a single game. The scale is similar to that of points scored, i.e., 40 is an outstanding performance, 10 is an average performance, etc.***

I worked up some rough calculations, and based on our team defense, and each players minutes combined with their plus minus, averaged in with who I like.... I have come to the conclusion that if Bell plays in 18.5 or more veteran minutes against the Grizzlies, we will lose a close game by 2.56 points.

If Bell plays less than 10.5 veteran minutes and the Jazz use the minutes without Bell to focus on more one on one isolation plays the Jazz will win by 1.25 points while at the same time sacrificing the "team game".

If Favors plays 35+ minutes the Jazz will win by 12.6 points.

If the Jazz play 3 white players at the same time for more than 12 minutes in the game it will offset any advantages we have and we will find a way to lose. For statistical purposes Harris will be counted as white.

I have complete confidence in Corbin that he will find a way to make it close, but will break the 3 white players rule, so we will end up losing by 6.

That's right, Harris is supposed to be Deron.

with the upcoming draft and the likely possibility of us not obtaining a game changer, along with the rooks we have invested in not getting court time, then yeah, he will have to be deron for the trade to not suck ***.

Even if Harris doesn't play up to par, we've got Favors. The crappy thing, however, is not knowing if Harris is going to become a great player in the Jazz system... if you don't think he will, then drafting a point guard in this year's draft is a must. No?

I've seen things that worry me. You don't see him get a lot of great shots for guys. His ability to penetrate is mostly for himself. And his jumper isn't the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. But A) he's playing with all new guys in a complex system and B) he's not Deron. A's okay, B makes me sad because we had it so good and you can't just replace DWill with another pretty good guy.

Today on 1320 Corbin said he played Bell, despite his lack of contribution looking at the boxscore, because of the defensive presence he is. He then said Martin scored such and such points, which seemed to completely negate that argument, but then said he does good on help defense even though his shot isn't there right now. I wish Locke would have pushed him more on this subject.

i think it is a critical issue right now definitely. if the jazz system stands to stay the same they need a top notch point to run the show.

Thanks for that post...interesting stuff.

**** man. I am completely worried. I mean, I know all the stuff about teams never winning the title with a all star PG at the helm, but **** it.

The Jazz easily have the worst guards in the NBA.

How depressing. The Jazz REALLY suck now.

Utah is the best at letting no-name players have career nights. Haddadi is on his way to having his best game as a pro. Seriously, guys, PLAY SOME DEFENSE. I still don't see why Corbin sits Favors as much as he does. The kid can play! Damn it.

Grizz playin some D, showing the Jazz how it is done. Making most every shot difficult or getting guys they want to shoot, shoot like Raja. Big Al with only 3 attempts in the first half. CJ's looks were all difficult (although without him they might not have gotten any looks on some of the possessions.
