What's new

That moment when Exum "got it."

I disagree. I know what you're saying but I think the game against Phoenix last week and last nights game(and his summer league game pre-injury) show that he has a mindset now that he wants to dominate. He has the speed, agility, length, craftiness, passing ability, and now the drive, mid-range jumper and three point shot to make him unguardable as he develops. I love that scoop shot off the high glass. Will that become his signature move?

"That moment" is upon us.

somebody's "mindset" doesn't define them as a professional of any type. But perhaps especially when you're a professional athlete. Dante has a lot to prove over the next two seasons.

He still can't consistently hit shots off the dribble. You can't be unguardable without a reliable pull up game.

I totally respect your opinion. I readily admit you know a lot more than me about hoops overall. But watch this and then tell me he has a lot to prove. The eyes don't lie. He is sofa king good... right now.

I said he could become unguardable, "as he develops".
Agree. Players can only add so much to their games each summer. What of the players taken before Dante? Did they become superstars by year #2? Exam is already elite defensively. Now let's give him a few years to develop offensively. He's getting better and better; eyes dont lie. Looks like he added range; maybe his next task will be finishing at the rim or shooting off the dribble.

I'm optimistic about him. More strength and a much better handle... show me those and then I'll start salivating.

sigh, the definition of "elite". I think that in order to merit that distinction, you need to have done it for much much longer that Exum. He definitely shows elite potential, though. But he also makes plenty of mistakes.

Your eyes are right, Exum's good already, he was a steal at the 5th pick, he'd be good if he was on the Nets this year... He's certainly a bargain for his pay grade. His position is actually PG/SG/SF.. No reason to be cautious about it, he's fitting to blow up, it's a fait accompli,

The star potential is obviously there, and that might be putting it lightly... Teams would sacrifice a ton to get him..

this next draft has a legendary PG crop, and I;m starting to rethink how Exum stacks up vs them....... He might be on the level of the top ones (possible #1 picks)..

The way you worded it made it sound like he had the shot already and he just needs to "develop it" just made it sound like he was already at a certain level with his shot, I dont think he is. His shot still looks pretty stiff off the dribble and his set shots are almost all taken without a defender within 6 feet of him. He also has a lot of variance on the arc on his shot from shot to shot.

Im in love with everything he does but his shot. I trust he can develop it, but it might always be the weakness in his game.

Hayward would have to be a complete imbecile to walk from this team, even if it's over a couple million dollars.
My gut tells me he will walk (money matters more to him than winning) which is why it's critical we see players like Exum, Hood, Lyles, really step up their games this season.
