Gobert's Offense

I totally agree on the positive impact both Exum and Diaw will have on Gobert's offensive game. Last season, as the supposed team "playmaker", Hayward consistently ignored or refused to pass to Gobert.

Just improving his FT percentage is a huge, huge boost. Also means he can be left on the court at crunch time.

Its that and more. It also means you can bang and initiate contact on the offensive end and go to the line with confidence. If you are worried about shooting foul shots you play a lot more timid on the interior.

It looks like he'll be improved no matter who is playing next to him, but I hope Diaw's passing examples rub off on the rest of the team.

As others have said it's a combination of :
1/ Being put in better scoring situations by his teammates thanks to spacing and quality passing (Exum and Diaw).
2/ Having worked hard at it, which we can see on the FT shooting.
3/ But the biggest reason of all so far, sadly, is that it's preseason. Preseason means that defense gives you a wee bit more time, means that you are not stressed so you don't tighten up thinking "ok sometimes my ft shooting lets me down, I hope it doesn't happen today" and the biggest one of all, preseasoon means you are neither banged up nor tired. For big guys particularly, once they get structurally tired in the midst of the regular season grind (lack of sleep, lack of rest, little dings here and there), their coordination falls off a cliff. All the hard work and rep starts to fall by the wayside as the body goes back to its habits.

so colour me happy, but to me the key will be if this solider FT shooting (say if he could average 70% that's be great) is still solid pas february... He still should look better on O thanks to the better spacing and passing available, but he could very well see his %ges go down later on in the season...

I think Gobert can be a decent free throw shooter for a big man. I like that he seems more focused this year.

He should be fresher this year as he can sit for longer periods as we actually have a bench now.

I'm sure there are other factors but I'm sure it's good for his game not having Neto or Trey b at point. Even Mack is ball dominant I wouldn't say he's a great passer either.

I don't think the fact that it's preseason needs to be clarified. It's common sense that the players don't play as hard in preseason, Gobert won't face starting front lines of Bass and Speights in the regular season, he won't average 20 & 10, and he won't shoot over 80% from the line. He will likely tire throughout the long NBA season as most players do, and will become a little more inconsistent with his newly formed skills as he becomes further removed from his meticulous summer reps, but he'll still end this season with a higher skill base than he ended with in the previous one. He will still be a relatively poor offensive player this season; however, it's painfully obvious that he has improved his offensive game. That's really all that needs to be said.

I'm waiting to see how he fares against the like of Steven Adams and Andrew Bogut who have physically had their way with him before deciding how improved Rudy is
