Exum Defense vs Bucks - Video

But in my opinion this showed a lack of intensity on Dante's part, which could be called being soft. Does he want to be an NBA player or not? Playing like this to me indicates a problem with his attitude. Watch how Neto plays when he gets in the game and contrast that with Dante.

I dont see the lack of intensity in him at all, including this play. Getting stuck in no man's land does not mean he isnt trying. He does not know what to do on the play but once he realizes there is an open man about to shoot he tries to close out. Exum is much more likely on defense to be too aggressive than not trying.

Watch the video. It certainly doesn't show him being aggressive. Apparently, Quin thought so too, because he immediately subbed him out. You can make all the excuses you want, but there is no doubt that Dante is a timid player. He gets open in the paint all the time and never shoots. He either takes threes or goes straight to the hole. He does lack strength which is why he is manhandled by opposing players like Bledsoe but I don't see enough fire or fight in him when that happens.

I did watch the video. I am not sure what you mean by aggression but he does not get pulled because of aggression or lack thereof. He gets pulled for not rotating correctly multiple plays in a row. I am not sure what he is thinking that is just speculation. But I have watched Exum all year fairly close and his rookie year. He has never lacked aggression on the defensive side. That is not a knock on him.

Compare him with how, for example, Chris Johnson played defense. Dante has better tools, length and quicker feet, but you don't see the same level of intensity, or compare him to Mike Conley. I think attitude, intensity, timidity, all these factor in his failure to live up to expectations and this is what has got to change if he is going make it, let alone be a star in the NBA. You have a better explanation for this?

I disagree. Exum plays hard on defense. I think he needs to play smarter defense not play harder. He is usually too aggressive and now post injury is struggling to get back in front of his guy to make up for getting beat on crossovers and other jukes that if he was not as aggressive would not bite as hard on.

So, you're blaming the injury. Well, you can't blame the injury for what happened in the video. That was pure lack of concentration. You can't blame the injury for his failure to take open shots in the paint. One thing is for certain whether or not it has to do with the injury he sure doesn't seem to have much confidence out there.

He can't. Read the rules. 3rd year players have to agree to go to the D-League. Just because he agreed to go to a practice doesnt he will agree to play in a game. It's clear him and/or his agent declined to play in the game Neto/Burks played in.

Clear as mud.

What is an “assignment” player?

A player put on assignment is a player on an NBA roster who is being sent to the D-League to get some playing time. The NBA club still holds their exclusive rights and only they can recall said player. Assignment players must have three (3) years of NBA experience or less and can be assigned an unlimited number of times.

*Players with 4 or more years of experience can also be assigned to the D-League however they must give their NBA team consent for the assignment.

He was more than fine on defense intensity wise before injury. Now he pathetically lacks quickness and gets burns even when leaves plenty of space. I reckon Dante is done as basketball player at this point as he has no NBA skills to compensate and I am saying this as his fan.

I have not blamed the injury for anything in that video. Maybe re read what I said. He got away with playing over aggressive his rookie year. He was able to recover a lot on getting juked. He cannot do that yet again. I think he needs to stop doing that even when he recovers.

I dont think his mistake was lack of concentration either but lack of concentration and aggressiveness are two different things.

He played with plenty of confidence on the defensive side his rookie year and earlier this season. He does seem to be questioning himself and his defensive positioning more lately but he also is getting very inconsistent minutes, roles and positions.

As far as not taking open shots in the paint I would like to see your evidence of that this year. That is something he struggled with his rookie year but has not this year. He drives quite a bit and attempts a shot most of the time.

Here you can look at all of them from this season:

You may be right, sad to say if this is what actually is going on. I don't know though because he seemed to playing good defense early in the season, had some really good blocks. He's seemed to have lost the intensity he had earlier. Maybe it's due to the tendonitis. Maybe this is the problem, that he's not going to be able to be the player he could've been, like Raul Lopez who had a bunch of injuries and only was the shell of what he could've been.
