What's new

What if Hayward doesn't re-sign?

No it'd make for the best drama seen on jazzfanz in years. The team would wildly out-perform the doomsayers predictions if shrewd moves are made.

You can't seriously tell me that this isnt a decent playoff team in the west next year;

Holiday - Exum - Burks/Neto
Hood - Burks - Exum - (Ingles??) - draft pick??
Gallinari - Joe Johnson - Hood/Burks - draft pick
Favors - Lyles - Johnson/Gallinari/Bolomboy - draft pick
Gobert - draft pick - Bolomboy

Lets say they pay Gallo and Holiday 39MM combined that 105MM between 11 players not counting the draft picks or Ingles - and there's actually still room for him..

No way the Jazz would gamble on Jrue leaving a possible max with NO (who do they have to pay?)
They would quickly extend Hill and Favors. They would be in retain asset mode Utah is not a FA destination.

If Hayward leaves Hill probably will too.

How many years has Hayward played for Quin? You think he "knows" Boston's coach and that's a reason to go there over staying here, playing for a coach he's been with even longer?

Boston is a good team. Do they have a better shot at going to the finals than the Jazz? I don't really know, but it's not like a clear upgrade for him.

Bigger market but a smaller contract. I'd call that a wash.
Boston has a lot better shot at making finals. The East doesn't have the best team in history of basketball.

the best team in basketball history lost it last year though. who knows what'll happen.. i do agree that Boston has a much better shot at a finals berth than Utah does.. no doubt.

Yeah and then that team added the 2nd best player in basketball to it's team.

Anything is possible. If we somehow get smoked by LAC round 1, then Hayward might leave to win. He still hasnt won a playoff game in his entire career.

I have a feeling it all could come down to how far we make it in the playoffs.

If we got bounced first round and BOS makes it to the conference finals then - watch out.

Hmm.. what if the Jazz do the unthinkable and trade Hayward to the Celtics for Brooklyn's lottery pick? Would you guys think it's a good thing if the Jazz have a feeling Hayward would bolt when the season ends? For me, I don't know but at least they did something to capitalize on Gordo's worth.

That pick is worth more than Hayward. It wont happen. Maybe if they throw in picks on-top, which I'd do..

completely agree. Cutting losses is an artform that the Jazz have struggled with understanding/executing the last few years.. The keyword should be Obviate, instead their moves are reactionary because they feel they've achieved some desired level of flexibility...

If he leaves, chances are Hill leaves too. And what we need to do at that point is tank and rebuild, but we won't - we will try to be good around Gobert, Favors and Hood and we will be OK, but not great. In other words - most probably we will be a treadmill team. Unfortunately. That's why it's so important that we actually get Hayward to stay.

NO!!They've already gone past that point of no return.. It's like people don't recognize that Rudy is more essential to this team than Hayward and the overall quality of the roster..

They're equipped to march forward while getting younger with all these extra picks, and cap space.. The window has already opened.. Losing Hayward + Hill DOES NOT slam it shut.

Always thought Joe Johnsons deal was 2 years incase Hayward walks..

Joe Johnson is not at a stage of his career where he can be insurance for any all-star level player. Also, notice I didn't say we will be bad. That's a problem IMO, not something to relish. We turn into a team that's too good to get high picks and high chance of franchise players in the draft and bad enough as to not be a threat in the playoffs. I think we will float around .500 at that point for the foreseeable future. I love Gobert but he's not a player that by himself will make you a contender.

Or what if they really sweeten it and offer Crowder + the pick. I know Boston is pursuing Butler with their hoard of picks and assets, but if that falls through, and they offer the kitchen sink to Utah for Hayward, DL will be tempted.

There's too many good reasons for him to leave for the celtics. We really needed them to tank this season for us not to worry.

If Boston offers the Brooklyn pick, we gotta listen. I like Hayward, but there is no guarantee he stays. And I agree with Jazz4ever, Crowder might get the deal done.
