Adding Deron doesn't do that. It just gives you a non-****ty option for backup PG. It's a minor improvement. Also, there is no "Lillard, Deron, etc". Those players are at completely different levels.

30 vs. 43 matters. I'd rather give a guy a guaranteed 4 year deal and have him be restricted than a 3 year non guaranteed deal. Can decline option after year two or three anyway.

The Jazz are 23-9 when Hill plays. So, yeah, when Hill is healthy, Deron is a minor improvement.

The Jazz are 12-13 when Hill doesn't play. So, if/when Hill is hurt again, Deron is a MASSIVE improvement.

I said this earlier:

DWill solves that problem. What if DWill takes you from 23-9 when Hill plays to 25-7? What if DWill takes you from 12-13 when Hill doesn't play to 16-9?

All the sudden, you went from a 50 win team to a 58 win team.

PLUS, if Hill is too expensive, then you have a backup plan in DWill this summer, so you gain leverage in negotiations.

Finally, if you only have to give up a second round pick, or the GS 1st round pick...It's a real no brainer.

Eh. Both players are out of the league in three years. We are really splitting hairs at this point.

It boils down to this: To win a title, you need elite players. Lillard is a top 5, maybe top 3 player at his position. Gobert is a top 3 player at his position. Hayward is a top 10 player at his position.

You now have stars. Go get those freaking stars.
 
Not sure why we are interested in trading for Deron to be a backup, to make a minor improvement for a guy with a history of being a douche, chemistry and coach killer. And from watching Hayward and Williams play against each other tells me there might be a hint of animosity at least on Haywards part. Isn't this the guy we want to resign with the jazz?
