Sources: Utah has expressed interest in re-acquring Deron Williams

Eh. Both players are out of the league in three years. We are really splitting hairs at this point.

It boils down to this: To win a title, you need elite players. Lillard is a top 5, maybe top 3 player at his position. Gobert is a top 3 player at his position. Hayward is a top 10 player at his position.

You now have stars. Go get those freaking stars.

Or they are rotation players or jimmy butler or Rudy Gobert I mean it does happen.

I am only talking about the deron trade though. We ain't getting Lillard.

It does happen, most definitely. I'd take the proven commodity over the minuscule chance I can get a bench guy though.

This is an unusually deep draft full of talent. I've heard experts say this draft goes 60 deep in this draft. I think there will be more then a few good picks later in this draft.

I've heard people say that type of things about drafts in general. And I've heard the opposite at times (that a particular draft is really shallow). But when you look back five years later, I've noticed that there is very little correlation with claims like that and what the draft actually turns out to be.

because we can control the first-round pick's future for longer. In short, it's a cheap long-term contract situation... which is good when you're at the stage of a build like the Utah Jazz.
Good retort.

Good retort.

Not really, though.

Again, if you have a trio of Gobert, Lillard and Hayward, you are going to be running up against the cap. In that case, a crappy 12th man who is guaranteed years is not valuable. Now you have to give up a second round pick to dump their salary.

This is all hypothetical. Right now, where the Jazz are now, yeah, NAOS is right. Late first rounds are great assets to have. When you have a trio of Lillard, Hayward and Gobert, late firsts just get in the way.

The original take on this was GS's pick vs a second rounder. Both picks suck. One gives you cap flexibility. The other gives you a cheap contract, but long term.

I'd take Deron over a long term, cheap contract. He is a better player. If you offer the 45th pick (or whatever second round pick) and Dallas says, no thanks, we want the #30 pick for Deron, you do it. It is a no brainer.

For whatever reason, Jazz fans are anti-star. I don't know why.

If we want to win a title, we need a star. Once you have a star, you need to fill in around the star with cheap veterans. Not youth. Not late first round picks.

There are a GLUT of stars available. It is almost unforgivable if the stars get moved and we don't get one.

Go get those stars. Then, go get the Deron's of the world and surround those stars with Veteran players. Not young, maybe someday this #30 pick will be as good as a 32 year old Deron Williams.

Hayward: 1 all star appearance

Lillard: 0 all star appearance

Lillard was an All Star in 14 and 15. He made the All NBA teams in 14 and 16. He was rookie of the year in 13.
He would be our best player and our most decorated player we have.
