We are splitting hairs here as well. Hayward is on a playoff team. Lillard is on a terrible team. That is why one was an All Star and the other wasn't. They are both very good players. I'd rather have Lillard and I'd bet most GM's feel the same.

Lillard can carry a team. Lillard and Gobert would be special together. More special than Hayward and Gobert.

The crazy thing is, it sounds like the Jazz could get Hayward, Lillard and Gobert. That is orgasmic.

Hayward has an advantage in FG%, 3pt %, less TOspg and plays D. Yeah, Lillard is a great offensive threat but the game is deeper than that.

You claim about what GMs want is pure speculation.

Not sure why this turned into a Hayward v Lillard anyways as that's not happening.
 
It's hard to debate Hayward and Lillard since they play different positions and play different styles. I think they are in the same tier. Hayward is a far superior defender which is half the game and brings a lot more things to the table but Lillard is a better scorer. Either way if we could get both that would be great but unlikely.

Trading Hayward for Lillard would be a mistake and not do much for this team except create a hole at SF and add a player to a position we have covered in Hill and Exum. Unless the Jazz think they can't re sign Hayward.

I would rather go after George or Butler but I would be happy if we got Lillard assuming we didn't give up Hayward or Gobert and I would rather not give up Exum but if that's the only way to get one of these players then you go for it.

Lillard gets beat, Gobert helps and cuts off his man as he does, easy dump off, oop or rebound for Gobert's man. Sure you rotate down but now the whole defense has shifted leaving what usually is the corner 3 open.

Bring Gobert up to guard the pick and roll, Lillard gets stuck, Gobert is stuck in no man's land AWAY from the rim where he is a defensive force.

Gobert is elite defender at the rim, but you can't just accept guard penetration and Gobert to just handle it and lead a top defense.

Rudy steps up to stop penetration due to terrible guard defense. The pass goes around him to the player he just left. Or the guard puts up a floater before Rudy gets there. It's happened MANY times this year when PGs have gotten beaten ( or our SG's on switches). You overstate how easy it is to "hide" a poor defender.

I am not downplaying anyone. I said Lillard is better than Hayward. Lillard is more accomplished than Hayward. Lillard is more proven than Hayward. Those are all facts.

None of that says that Hayward sucks, yet you seem to think that they mean that.

I'd rather have Lillard over Hayward. He is a better player.

I'd rather have Jordan over Stockton, Malone, Barkley, etc. Doesn't mean those guys suck. I'd love any of those guys. BUT, if Portland said, "we want Hayward for Lillard straight up" I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Lillard can carry you to a title with the right pieces around him. Hayward is a Robin on a title contending team. Or, if you have Lillard and Gobert, Hayward is the Alfred/Oracle.

They had a top 5 defensive team with Lopez and Matthews. Hay isn't as good as Matthews defensively. They also had Aldridge who isn't considered plus defender. Lillard also had 3.3 DWS that year. I don't understand why he couldn't come near that with the best rim protector and adequete defenders all around.

It's worth the risk since you know what you are getting offensively.

He has regressed defensively believe it or not and also he got KILLED by Tony Parker in the playoffs.

Plus WING defenders help because you can "hide" Lillard on the worse guard (which like I said, most teams have 2 good guards now). Gobert does not help hide Lillard's inefficiency, he just hurts Gobert's efficiency. That is what I was referring to that it doesn't work that way.

They do though.
Exum sucks still, you yourself many times have talked about how hood is meh, favors is broken.

They can get more for a superstar than suck, meh, broke imo
