1. Ric Bucher is an idiot. That is probably the nicest thing I could say about him.
2. Superstars who can make their own choice about where to play aren't coming here anyway (this has been pointed out numerous times)
3. I'm still optimistic (naive?) enough to believe that with the right team, you don't absolutely have to have a "superstar" to win.
Carmelo, Amare, Howard, Nash, Dirk, LeBra, CP3, Deron... How many rings in this group? One player is not necessarily the ticket to the promised land.
(I was going to include Durrant, but it's really only a matter of time, right?)

Jazz will have to build their team through the draft & trades and mid range FAs. Just like they always have.
When was the last time a big time free agent signed with a small market team anyway?
D.Will did just fine by the Jazz. The Jazz gave him the keys to the franchise, got him in a system where he could shine, got him to the playoffs, maxed him, and helped develop him into an Olympian.
D.Will can still opt out after next year and get traded in the meantime. I don't see how the Jazz harmed D.Will. If anything, it makes the Jazz FO look like they know what they're doing, which should be attractive to a FA.

I think the trade does send a message to certain types of players, but it's not like a LeBron, DWade, Melo, etc. would want to come to Utah anyway. For the hard-working, lunch pail crowd, it shows the opposite; the JAzz FO is going to support the team and not allow one person to dictate his will upon teammates or coaches. It's important the Jazz draft or trade for players who can and want to be part of an organization and don't view the team as simply a place to showcase their own talents.

From a business standpoint, I could see why the Jazz might draft Jimmer (if he's still there at #12). He'd sell tickets, that's for sure. And I think he could be a quality back-up, somewher along the lines of a Korver, with better ball-handling skills but maybe not as efficient a shooter.
Personally, I hope there are better options than Jimmer at #12 (and I'm a BYU alumnus). Without a CBA in place, trades can't be made right away, but I'm hoping KOC is already working on a deal that would have us drafting for another team with that pick and getting a veteran SF in return.

I think the Jazz WANT to draft Fredette. If he can show them he can pass the ball and run an offense then I think they'll justify it. And if he can do that then maybe he's not such a bad pick. He also WANTS to play for the Jazz, so no need to trade him before his contract's up, ala Deron. I dunno. I think they have to think he can eventually be a starting PG though, ala Nash maybe (and not just a quality backup), to justify taking him. I agree it makes total business sense at least. Is he a chucker or can he run the Jazz' disciplined system?
I dunno - it doesn't matter. There are a lot at 12 that seem about equal risk/reward so the Jazz will get something there.

Free agents will come if we build a good team and, here is the big reason, PAY THEM MORE than other teams offer. We have to build through the draft and trades. No small market trade will attract the big free agents unless they have a a contender-ready team.
Rich Bucher is a hack. D-Will said he couldn't get free agents to come play with him here anyways(albeit he could have been talking about LeQueen James, which if that's the case, really dude, aim a little lower.)
