Jazz, George Hill taking contract talks down to wire

It'll be hilarious if greed ends up being the deathknell for this current team, stories like that are always funny to me..

It was totally unnecessary and preventable..

Some of the best advice I ever got was after losing a game of chess my victorious opponent said "If you weren't so greedy I don't think I could beat you"

In sports there's all-sorts of shoulda woulda coulda teams like that.. Ultimately greed destroy many of these able-bodied teams..

the concept of a team is fragmented into salary allocation so I don't understand why so many people kick and scream over maneuvering in a preemptive way.. This is the nature of the game..

at it's core though the concept of a team will always be individuals sacrificing for the betterment of the unit.. In the NBA this happens in the form of Agents signing ****ty deals and ripping their clients off, like Steph Curry..

Lets also not forget there's an element of hyper-competetive athletes involved, they're certainly competitive when it comes to the size of their contracts too...

Sign Hill and Gordon is virtually 100% certain to re-sign. Let Hill dangle and Gordon may waffle. One of the two had to commit first. Hill was willing to do so.

If Utah trots out Dante/Neto as the PG duo next year, Jazz are fighting for the 8th seed. Does Hayward want that? If I were Gordon and DL had the chance to extend a good friend, ensuring the team would be fighting for a top seed, then didn't, I'd go to Boston.

Call me overly dramatic, but I DL just put at risk a franchise player. Won't be one bit surprised to see Hill in SA, Gordon in Boston and the Jazz stuck in the worst possible situation: not bad enough to get a top lottery pick and not good enough to compete.

Then the Jazz, smartly, did not offer 88m nonsense. Thank God.
Starting a Point Guard for the Utah Jazz: Cap Space!

Phew, thank god we still have that grand ole flexible cap space. That big free agent who has literally never come to Utah is on his way. I just know it.

George Hill will be turning 31 in May. He is not going to get any better. He is not going to start being less fragile. This is where the body starts to take a down turn. You don't pay someone like him a max like contract. He has never been close to being an all-star. He is barely above average. You want to pay him like he has been this great player all along?

Just say no to overpaying George Hill. These are the type of deals that come back to haunt you. I hate Exum, but I'd rather take my chances with him. If George Hill would accept a reasonable deal for an aging average point guard then yes. But you dont pay him like he is an all-star.

C'mon people. Seriously. A 31 year old George Hill. Really?

I think this is a case of people forgetting what its like to have a decent point guard after watching what we have had after Dwill for so long.

Look elsewhere. Trade for a younger player like Tyus Jones and hope you get something similar for or a lot less. At least there is hope that the player can get better.
