What's new

DL talks about Hayward's extension.

Piggybacking off of this, I would much rather have Lou Williams and PJ Tucker on this team, with the contracts they're currently on, than signing Danny Green or Demarre Carroll to multi-year, up to 20 million dollar deals (two moves you advocated for). How's bulldog-demarre doing

37-26, 4th in the east. He is doing good, thanks for asking.

;)

you're better than this. I think.

You continue to try to erode the wisdom behind the point via attacks on the players that I was advocating for (not all of the players, mind you, but just the ones that your cherry-picking and addled brain remember). We should have spent then, and we should have spent now.

You're bad a repenting, btw.

and lmfao at the $20 million quote. That's the most hilarious exaggeration in the 2-year history of that spat.

tell me, how's Stop-Gap-Option Hill been playing this year?

Hayward built this team. It would be super weird for him to leave right when it starts to pay off.

By all accounts he enjoys his quiet life with his new family. I really don't know why he would take less money to go to Boston and play second fiddle to IT.

He's comfortable here, and he has a chance to become a Utah legend.

I won't say 0% chance he walks. But I feel like there will be something more to the story if he does.

Somehow I bet IT doesnt sign his next contract with Boston.

You mean because they will draft Fultz or Ball and not pay him?

Or they trade for Jimmy Butler and dont pay him. How big of a contract is anyone going to want to give a 5'9 who is one of the worst rated defenders in the NBA?

Max contract. He's an MVP level offensive player.

I'm on record saying I think BOS should trade IT this off-season while the haul is substantial. There's a ceiling on whatever team he's captaining, and it's below the championship.

The stop gap option we collected while assessing Dante Exum? Well Exum hasn't grown much and stopgap isn't turning out to be the selflessly "winning over everything" player you predicted him to be, so it's starting to look like he might not be here again next season. I say we go after Jrue Holiday unless George Hill can be had for a good price.

Oh, is bulldog George out with another toe injury? Lmao.

lol.

Hayward is getting a max contract. If Utah doesn't offer him one someone else will.

It looks like we are doomed to losing one or both and either just getting in the playoffs going forward, or being out of the playoffs again.
Judging by the optimism of most on this board, it's all over and we should just rebuild again because we are losing everyone.

I'm just going to enjoy the rest of this year and hope for a deep run. I don't have the time to track salaries of our players any more.

Best case for the Jazz...sign Hayward, whatever it takes, then make a hard stance on Hill offering what we can afford. If he prefers making more money and playing for the Nets/76ers/or whoever, fine, Goodbye. Sign D-will over the summer to mentor/backup Exum. Our fate rests in how much Exum can improve over the summer.

I think both Hayward and Burks should work with Exum during the offseason on improving his "finishing at the rim" skills, these two "mentors" afterall are two of the best finishers at the rim in the league.

Ya Exum is the key. I have always been one of Exum's biggest critics/"haters" but the work that has been done with gobert by quin and his staff + quin being known as a great guy to develop talent + the fact that i belive that quin truly believes in X + his physical gifts (his speed is legit.... Truly elite) gives me a lot of hope that X does in fact turn into an above average starter and maybe even an all star.

This is a complete 180 on my past thinking of exum but I really am starting to believe. (Maybe a little bit out of desperation because we need him to pan out so badly, but belief nonetheless)

I have more hope for Exum but I doubt he has anywhere near Gobert's rise. Gobert was excellent from the get go and is by all accounts incredibly hard working and a fiery competitor. I think Dante is a competitor but I'm not sure I see the same confidence, attitude, desire that is so much a part of what makes Rudy a demigod.

I think Burks is traded and I'd put his chances at returning at less than 25%. Money, no an ideal fit, reconfiguring. I think Exum is a good option as the third guard next year but I'd want to make sure we had Ingles and a solid starter... hopefully Mr.Hill.

Why would Hayward choose Utah over Boston? There is only one reason: Money.

And even then, is the money that different? Utah can offer more dollars on the contract. BUT, in Boston, Gordon Hayward is a national star. In Utah, he pimps Bailey's Moving. In Boston, Hayward gets a shoe deal. In Boston, Hayward opens the season vs LeBron on TNT and plays on ABC Christmas Morning vs the Warriors. His face is everywhere. In a large market like Boston, Hayward is a marketer's dream.

Winning? Boston is better now and better set up for the long haul.

Now, back to the money thing. I wonder how much ESPN's financial troubles are going to affect players the next few years. If ESPN keeps losing subscribers, the next NBA deal will be much, much, much smaller. If the deal is a lot smaller, player contracts will fall and fall fast.

Now, the current deal ends in 2025 (I think). So, if Gordon re-ups this summer for five years, he will get another deal in 2022. If that's the case and ESPN holds on that long, then staying in Utah isn't as important, as he will get another big deal before the bubble pops.

BUT, if ESPN were to bankrupt out of their contracts, or renegotiate them (and currently ESPN is poised to start losing money in 2021) to a lower number, then Gordon's 2022 contract could be SIGNIFICANTLY smaller.

Then, if you are Gordon, what do you do? Do you max out with Utah, knowing that there is a chance that five years from now, your deal could be a fraction of what this deal is, or do you take a three year deal this summer, get your 30 million per year for three years, opt out in 2020 and get a max deal for 4-5 years at 35-40 million per year then?

It's a risk for sure.
