Why are gun owners afraid to admit they own guns?

I was a dick? I've found that people don't actually understand **** about guns. Do you know how often I've heard that phrase? It's quite common, and I don't know what some people mean when they say it. But hey, I'm a dick for giving a correcting thought.
You do have a valid point, and I will try to avoid that particular phrasing. But no promises - my mouth and fingers work faster than my brain.

in all honesty, there are swaths of Dems who are no different in terms of being bought by the forces that encourage medicalization. But the Reps are rather......unabashed with their encouragement of pharmaceuticals.

It's really not a big deal. I never meant it as an insult, just a correction. I hope you didn't take it that way, and I apologize if you did. I was just taking umbrage to being called a dick.

Surely "guns can go off accidentally" can be reasonably understood to mean "guns can be fired on accident"?

Which really means "fired due to negligence."

I've heard people talk about guns just going off as if guns are unstable and sometimes just go off. People do believe that and it is an anti-gun myth that needs to be confronted for the sake of gun safety.

In TV and Movies guns are sometimes shown "going off" when dropped. No modern gun will fire because it is dropped.

Agree that most modern firearms cannot be discharged accidentally. Some older firearms can. Even the old G11 could discharge a round if it became too hot (cooking off). Newer guns that have a mechanical failure call also discharge. The failure could be due to negligent upkeep and repair, or due to a manufacturing defect.

Okay, do you have a single proven incident of a modern firearm going off because it was dropped or some other non-trigger pulling accident?

You're spreading a myth that gives an out to people who use guns in an unsafe manner and claim that it wasn't their fault when it most certainly was their fault.

There are 4 rules of firearm safety that must be followed at all times. You must violate at least two of the four rules for a person to be harmed unintentionally. So in reality, even if a gun does "go off" it should never hurt another person unless you are being negligent and breaking multiple firearm safety rules.

Fired on accident, fired due to negligence, gun going off...... We all knew what she meant.

You answered your own question. Those that want a registry generally do want to take people's guns away from them. You would have no problem with the government using the gun registry to round up all the guns or maybe just "assault weapons". I bet you would vote for a politician that advocated for it.

You're being intellectually dishonest. Ultimately you would like to see guns banned. You see a registry as a step in the right direction. Other people disagree with you. They don't want guns banned. You call them crazy for thinking that your ultimate intentions are exactly what they are.

This isn't true. I don't want guns banned. Why is always "all or none"? I don't get that.

I don't want people with dementia to have guns. I don't want people who aren't capable to have guns. Felons don't need to have guns.

There is a big difference between that and I WANT ALL GUNS BANNED!

Why aren't all guns licensed and why aren't gun owners licensed like cars? Why can anyone buy a gun buy anyone can't drive a car? Gun deaths outpace car deaths but heaven forbid we see if people are capable of having them.
