In defense of billy (and I offten disagree with him), the comparative stats are for SF's only. With Hayward's emergence as a scorer/shooter, I think you could support bringing AK back as a veteran presence on the team. But Corbin would need to work out rotations that make sense. That was Sloan's biggest downfall; he often had a group of non-shooters on the floor at the same time, then too many guys who demanded "touches." Harris, Jefferson and Hayward are all "scorers." Having AK and Favors play with the those three would add rebounding and defense. Second unit would be headed up by Watson (non-shooter), with Millsap and CJ as the primary scorers, along with our #6 pick. Granted, you won't always have all starters or all subs on the floor, but it's a waste to have Millsap, Jefferson, Hayward, CJ and Harris on the floor all at the same time. There aren't enough scoring opportunities for all of them, and then you have 3-4 of those guys out of the game while non-shooting subs take over. Who can forget the infamous Sloan rotations with Watson, Price and Elson playing together?

If Corbin wants to build a better team, he needs to manage the players better than Sloan did. And he needs to convince some to come off the bench, assuring them they'll still get their minutes and will actually have better overall stats.
 
Wouldn't it make more sense to take whatever we were going to offer AK and offer it to Battier? I'm guessing most would scoff at that idea, but Battier actually does everything that we've delusionally convinced ourselves AK does.

Better leader, actually speaks English, actually plays defense, doesn't pout, and can actually knock down the 3 ball. Battier truly does things that don't show up in the box score.

Battier would provide everything we hoped AK and Raja would.

If you can't find a stud to take his place, either through the draft or otherwise, then AK could still work here. For a vastly reduced price, of course.

He still, when healthy, can have that 1 out of 5 game where he's a beast.

You think Battier would actually come here? He's getting too old for a rebuilding team. I imagine he wants to go to a title contender, like Boston or Miami.
 
To me the biggest issue with AK now is his injuries. I think they've had more to do with his taking off games than people realize. I remember he started having problems after he hurt his hand or wrist at the end of 2004, I think it was, and it affected his shooting the next season for a long period of time, not sure which year it was. But after that, he seemed to repeatedly get injured. It's not that the talent has gone, it's his physical ability that has been hampered by the injuries. He doesn't move as fast or jump as high, and even less when he's injured and it seems like he's injured more often than not now.
 
My favorite AK game was when he had that triple double with 20 or so points, and the Jazz beat the Lakers -- this was after the year after the crying incident, I believe. I remember Boozer and Okur didn't play, and Fesenko played center, and Deron had 30 plus points. Plus Andrei had 3 steals and 3 blocks. It was an amazing performance.

- I definitely want to stay with the Jazz, you know. Salt Lake City has been my home town for a long time, you know, same for my wife and my kids. But I understand it is business and it is up to the management.
- Nothing other than how they normally talked, you know, things like that always happen. I was actually surprised he resigned.
- He is a very good young player and he has a very bright future in the NBA.

And despite all this, the homers here are still ready to sign him up for 7-8 mil for 3 years.

For all the grief Boozer took about his durability, he still didnt miss a single playoffs game for the Jazz. Can you say the same about Fragilenko?

Like someone else mentioned earlier, AK will play 60-65 games every year and will show up in half of them. He is not the veteran presence the Jazz need off the bench. Because he is not the mentoring type who will sow the young guys how to do with toughness. He may probably teach them which novels to read and what games to play once the game is over.

And for the standard argument that he helps us win games, well how many did he help us win this year, especially after the "villians" Sloan and Deron left?
The convenient excuse for AK homers was that it was first Sloan, then Boozer who took away his PF spot and then later Deron who wouldnt pass to AK, who all conspired together to destroy poor AK's game. Otherwise he would have been a multiple all star with 2-3 championships already. With all those villians gone now what did AK do this season and especially since February?

How many games did he help the Jazz win?

AK right now is a guy who plays well when everything around him is clicking and other guys are playing well. When the team loses, he quickly ducks out. He would be a good addition to a team like the Celtics maybe, who always need a veteran wing off the bench.

For a rebuilding team that needs mins for its young players and some veteran toughness he doesnt quite cut it. AK and toughness doesnt belong in the same sentence. You can add durability as well. Those are things a PER or a +/- type of stat does not quite convey.
