What's new

Burks, Exum and Lyles

All were DNP/CD on Saturday night. If these three are to be the future of the franchise, Quinn didn't have much faith in them on Saturday.

U need to think about some of these threads u make. Why in the hell would Quin play Exum and Lyles over those ahead them. Doesn't mean there is a lack of faith. They are still developing this is the playoffs. Time to develop is regular season.

It's like Trey really doesn't give a @h7t this year and has eaten his way to the end of the bench. I think Burks might have too many surgical scars and I'm still hopeful about X.

Lyles has disappointed me big time. Locke has theorized that Trey is looking at his old pals Booker and KAT and seeing all the numbers they're putting up and has decided the best way to handle it is to sulk about it. Of course the major difference being Booker and KAT are both on vacation while his team is winning playoff games on the road.

Not giving up on him in the least - I still think he will be an offensive force in the league. He just needs to do some growing up.

If the Jazz had taken a rookie instead of trading for Hill where is what the three players averaged 5.7 puts, 5.6 pots and 5.1 pts and all grabbed about 2.5 rebounds per game. They shot 40 54 and 35 percent from the field. Roughly what Trey gave the Jazz this last year. The two first round picks this year probably won't provide much help next year.

Thats why im lobbying for frank mason he's one rookie we can take that can play right away draining 3s

Lyles is a bust. Just look at Portis with 19 off the bulls bench. When was the last time lyles score more than five points in a game. There are just so many guys we should've taken instead of him at #12

Here are Portis' stats his first two years. Yep, he's really been a difference maker. Herein lies the danger of drawing broad conclusions from a single game.

If I was QS I give Burks some of Mack's mins. Be very clear that his role is corner 3's, boards, and he better play some ****ing D. Run the offense through the wingS and leave AB outside the arc.

Lyles I would be shocked if he got minutes at any point in the playoffs this year. His play and attitude is awful right now.

Burks has been unreliable but his defense is improved and sometimes he gets rolling and is hard to stop. I think he will get some burn at some point but will have a short leash. I think he deserves a chance to play a little and see what he can do. Mack has the trust of the coaches though and they like his reliability.

Exum I think should be playing over Mack but I understand the Snyder probably prefers the reliability of Mack and maybe his leadership. To me Exum has proven (especially post all-star) to be a far superior defender. I also think he is the better play maker and offensive threat. They look about the same offensively unless you look at post all star then Exum is much better across the board even if you compare that to any point in Macks career. I also think Mack holds the ball to much and Exum does not. Both make silly mistakes and turnovers that can cost the team a lot. Mack does do something better than Exum and I think that is what the staff wants plus I am sure they are worried about Exum getting rattled and messing up. Exum has proven to match up and play well against the Clippers though. I hope Exum gets a chance to play in the playoffs it will be good for his development and I think he will be good for our team. Rightfully he will be on a pretty short leash though. I wish Exum had played the last couple games leading up to the playoffs because that would have instilled more confidence in the coaching staff. The hard thing is Mack will be gone next season almost for sure.

Part of what I saw was Exum deferred so much by passing the ball back to Mack he hurt his own cause.I don't like Mack's game but one thing about Mack he doesn't hesitate to go to the basket with tear drops and layups.Exum hurts himself when he defers and makes it a 4 against 5 offense. That 1/7 shooting 3's against GS hurt him.Not the misses but that he let himself get caught on offense doing what his worst part of his offensive game is ,shooting 3's.

Pretty much the opposite of this. He is at his best when he defers. They took him off ball and away from more traditional PG responsibilities for a reason.

Statistically he got much worse when they took Exum off ball. His best ball was when his usage was up in April and he played more PG. I think he is at his best when he plays hard on defense. Sets up the plays on offense and tries to get the ball into playmakers hands early or in the pick and roll and he is decisive. Or when he plays iso and makes one move. If he tries to do too much he turns the ball over or puts up a bad shot. If he plays off the ball and just stands in the corner he hurts the team unless he is shooting well I also think he is less effective guarding and attacking SGs.

He has barely been on-ball since All-Star break and that is when he had been his best.

The stats I am looking at show he has had his usage go up post all-star. He has played some time at SG post all-star but a lower percentage of his time. Although across the season his stats at SG are better than at PG but I think that is heavily influenced by earlier play at that position.

Games 50-70 where his peak and most used at PG and highest usage rate time which was 21.5. That correlates with his offensive rating being 109 for those games, his best for a sustained period of time. He also had a net rating of +6 during that time. If you add in games 50 to the end his usage was 19.7 and his offensive rating was 108 but because of his good defense in those last 10 games his net rating went up to +8. All of those are better than his averages of 18 usage offensive rating 103 and net rating of +2. If you take out games 50 to the end those numbers drop quite a bit to 17 usage and 101 offensive rating and 0.4 net rating.

Burks is struggling lately. Given his contract I would be surprised if he wasn't moved this off season. I wasn't surprised he didn't play.
The Jazz are high on Exum. I think he'll get time these playoffs but I think with 4 PG's Quin is just going with who he feels has the hot hand so to speak on a given night.
Trey has struggled all year. I don't expect to see him in these playoffs. I think they'll work with him over the summer and try to get him out of this funk.
