Round 1 Game 2 Utah Jazz at L.A. Clippers 8:30pm MDT

Everyone (Jazz fans) on twitter is blowing up about Kane Fitzgerald. Sadly, it's going to be the Jazz vs Clippers and the refs tonight. We are going to lose out on calls tonight for sure. Kane straight hates us

Kane can't stop your optimism, doe, amiright?

A ref that can be bought is a powerful tool...

A couple more thoughts:
- Doc is already commenting about the off season, probably not a good sign for LA.
- Hayward and Hood both commented on how boring their two days off were. It might have been long enough for us to lose some momentum.

Yeah I wondered if they should have flew back to Salt Lake for the break. Eat home cooked meals, sleep in your own bed, and then fly back to LA refreshed.

I can't really see the upside of hanging around in LA for 2 whole days.

I can't really see the upside of hanging around in LA for 2 whole days.

Because it's essentially 6+ hours of travel time (flight duration, airports, sitting on planes) that's completely unnecessary. It's better to keep them rested as much as possible and keep them focused. They'll have an entire week in Salt Lake after tonight.

So just some thoughts here:

*The Jazz already got what they wanted out of LA - at minimum, a split - and so the stakes for this game are, on the surface, lower.

*That said, I personally believe that following Rudy's injury, this game is critically important. If the Jazz can pull off a second victory in LA tonight, they're almost certainly headed for the second round. While they're still at a slight advantage even if they lose, a victory for LA will motivate them, change some of the narrative and dynamics, and make it even harder for the Jazz to pull off two victories back in Utah, especially if Gobert hasn't recovered.

*Win tonight, our chances of heading to the second round is 95%. Lose tonight, my sense is that number drops to 40-50%, depending on Rudy's health.

*Tonight will be our best look into just how brilliant Quin Snyder is. He's being heavily lauded for the no-timeout call, but it's going to be this game where we truly see his acumen. There is no doubt that the Clippers have spent the past two days preparing, crafting a new gameplan for the Jazz without Rudy, and adjusting their tactics. I anticipate that Quin will have, like a chess player, anticipated what these adjustments will be and will have preemptively made adjustments of his own based on his theory of what Rivers is going to throw out there.

*National media is still heavily portraying the Jazz as the underdogs. This is the opportunity to silence that narrative; lose by double digits, however, and the story will be about the rise of the Clippers against adversity, which doesn't bode well for us to take advantage of their team-wide mental-emotional fragility.

*If our guys are locked in, I think we're going to win, but it's going to take insane effort, brilliant coaching, and a dash of luck for our shooters.

Doc is not good at making in-game adjustments.

Besides managing personalities, what is Doc good at? Seriously. Good for him he held together the Celtics team with noted psychopaths Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, and Big Baby Davis then went to coach a LA team that had Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Besides his UBUNTU horse **** and leading a collection of ******* and complainers, what does he do?
