I'm pretty damn encouraged with X going forward. I just wish his shooting form was much better and I hate his body language.

Dante has shown very little as far as consistency in his game, but the sparks are impressive. Next year is the make or break year for him, I wish him the best but we should start thinking of other possible "guards of the future" for the Jazz

Start Dante next season and change the offense at a faster pace.
I think the Jazz are toast to the faster teams that all ended up in the top 4 in the West playing Snyder's slow down style.I also think Dante and Hood and Lyles would be WAY BETTER playing more uptempo.I think Hayward and Gobert at their age could easily adjust to more pace.Unless the rules are changed ,more pace favors the team that can play it.
I'm encouraged by what I saw from him and thinking he'd do more isn't reasonable given the injury and lack of playing time.
That said... we can't blame all of his issues on Quin, Mack, etc. he still has some fatal flaws and while I don't think he is a dumb basketball player the mistakes he makes are usually big ones that lead to uncontested baskets. Those things are maddening to coaches, but we need to live through them and hopefully weed them out.
He also needs to be a better shooter and be an adequate shooter off the dribble... he's terrible at that and it may end up being the fatal flaw that neuters his biggest strength... speed.
If he takes his frustration out by working his *** off he can be a great player... if he pouts and looks for greener pastures he may not last in the league. Next year is the big test.
We play slow but it's a different kind of slow. We push for opportunity but if it isn't there we run our offense. Playing fast does not always equal playing well. Given that we don't have offensive superstars and have a lot of guys who don't create a ton I think our offense was good. If you have to deal with our tough defense on one side and then grind out offensive possessions for 20 seconds every time down the court it wears you out.

Obviously the Jazz don't have the horses to run that way, but Exum could definitely play in that style and flourish. I think when the Jazz did occasionally commit to pushing the ball hard they created a lot of easy opportunities for themselves.
I think Exum could have contributed more this season if Quin had shown more confidence in him and let him get a rhythm as the main backup all year. He used Shelvin as a security blanket when things went wrong, and pulled Exum out very quickly when he made mistakes. By doing that he conditioned Dante to worry about making mistakes more, and for parts of the season this really seemed to impact his confidence and level of play.
It's funny, because I recently read a quote by Brad Stevens about Jaylen Brown's development where he basically said that you have to give the young talented player the benefit of the doubt in every circumstance if it is close. That's how you get them enough time and confidence to develop most quickly. I though Quin Snyder understood this idea until this season. For whatever reason he went with a strategy that clutched at trying to win now (like this quarter or play) as opposed to letting the much more talented player work through a couple mistakes and eventually be able to contribute in a meaningful way, and feel like a part of the future moving forward. But worse than that, he treated the players the opposite way he should, and also let a lot of bad defense and TO's slide when it was Mack involved.
I don't brag about calling thing in advance very often, but I was dead set on the team trading Shelvin last offseason, and I still think signing him was low-key one of the worst moves that DL has ever made.I think the team would be in such a better place to re-sign Hayward if Exum was showing more signs of breaking out and being a legitimate starting PG. They would also have a lot more options and flexibility. I think he would have done this if he wasn't a platoon option with a journeyman PG. DL should have taken Shelvin away from Quin.

Good to hear, thanksApparently, Dante has been handed a thorough and rigorous training schedule for the summer, per Locke. Jazz are trying to do a lot of work with him this summer.
