How about sign & trade Hayward for Isaiah Thomas?

I guess it's my fault for not making that a bit more clear in the OP that WE ONLY DO THIS IF HAYWARD WANTS TO MVOE ON... I should have made it a bit more clear.



But yes - that was my thinking. Obviously if Hayward wants to stay - it's all good. But if he wants to move on & he feel like he wants to give Utah back something in return then this is a GREAT consolation.

I honestly don't think his trade value is as high as some may think. He is what he is and I think most FO's would have an understanding of this.

I guess defensively I thought with Gobert and our team defense being very solid we would be able to accomodate a bit of his lack in height.


He's had a tremendous season, in the playoffs it's a bit hard to gauge as:


1. It's his first playoff series;

2. He lost his sister;

3. He lost is teeth;

4. Hip issue


To summarise, to me offensively he could get even better, and Quin would make it work defensively with him and Gobert covering him.

So, we just throw away our ability to switch at every position and just rely on Rudy??? Cool.

Well you do lose that. All I'm saying is it's still better than losing Hayward for absolutely nothing.


Plus if any team can make it work defensively it would be Quin.

1. If he wants to stay - then sign with us - GREAT! Nothing to see here, business as usual. We keep improving.


2. If he wants to go to the Celtics - but he also doesn't want to leave the Jazz with nothing - he tells the Celtics that he would like to join them but would be interested in a sign and trade, Utah and Celtics.


This way he gets what he wants (i.e., going to the Celtics), but at the same time, helping the Jazz out and effectively thanking us for all that we've done for him so far. He would also help the Celtics out in a way because they're reportedly want to trade Isaiah Thomas anyway.


But what if the Celtics say No? Then Hayward would know that they don't want him enough to let go of Isaiah - meaning Hayward might change his mind and stay with the Jazz.

I see what you're saying. But the problem I see is that if Hayward is going to sign with Boston a big part of his reason for signing will be to play with Thomas. He's not gonna go there just to play with Horford and some youngsters. And if Boston can land Hayward in free agency then they won't want to lose Thomas because at that point they will be all in to win a championship. If we could make a sign and trade happen, the assets we could probably acquire are players like Jaylen Brown, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, Guerschon Yabusele. Young guys who would be expendable on their roster after they signed Hayward or players they have stashed overseas and aren't integral to their immediate success.

But I don't think we have to worry about it. Hayward is gonna stay

Why in the hell would Hayward or Boston do something as stupid as this?? If Hayward said he wanted to play in Boston, why would Boston trade Thomas for Hayward, when they could just sign him, then if they really want to trade Thomas, they could add additional young talent and or picks to build around Hayward.

Similarly, why would Hayward want to weaken his new team. If I were Hayward I would feel no obligation to Utah at all other then thanking the team and state he played for, either verbally or open letter.

This team is missing a threat like IT TBH team might be better with him then Hayward. Let's facilitate a trade for George to Boston an take IT an keep Hayward.

One thing to consider is that if we trade Hayward because we don't feel he will stay, what does that do for this teams reputation, because first... We aren't getting IT in return because that would tell Boston that Hayward doesn't want to play in Utah anymore. In that case why would they trade anything of real value when they could just sign him in free agency? If we aren't trading for IT then we aren't getting like value for him. The jazz get worse, which gives Rudy incentive to look at other options as his contract becomes closer to expiring. Then we're screwed.

I'd rather do everything possible to keep him even if that means risking losing him for nothing in return.
