General NBA Craziness and How it Applies to Utah

Atlanta with the terrible deals now it seems like too.

Atlanta is positioning themselves to make a run at everybody but also be able to take a bunch of assets for bad contracts. If my math is right they have like $57 million in cap room right now.

I guess Butler is saying he does not want to be traded and wants to try and get back to the playoffs with Chicago. Although he might just be talking about not wanting to go to Cleveland. He said he would not be committed to that team long term. Wade has also opted in, probably for money reasons but it seems unlikely they are going into tank mode this year.

Sources told ESPN on Tuesday that the Cavaliers have been notified that Butler hopes to stay with the Bulls and would be reluctant to commit his long-term future to Cleveland. Butler, sources said, remains intent on trying to lead the Bulls back to Eastern Conference prominence. – via ESPN

Atlanta Takes on Belineli and Plumlee for Dwight Howard.

I thought both teams were potential trade partners for the Jazz. Still thinking Favors might end up in Atlanta this summer.

I really doubt that Hill lost anything by keeping his options open. Utah will still likely offer him the same deal they did before.

I would expect the Jazz to offer less because before they were benefiting by moving some of the cost to this year. So if the demand for Hill has gone down, the health concerns for Hill have gotten worse, and the relative cost of the previous offer has gone up, then I don't see why the Jazz would extend the same amount of money. This was a mistake by Hill.

I have no idea where you're getting that number from... They have like 60 million + committed next year.

In case it was missed they moved Dwight and #31 to Charlotte for Plumlee/Belinelli/#41

My guess is that all the players know LeBron is jumping ship (again) and Butler doesn't want to get stuck in Cleveland without LeBron and without Kyrie.

Wow. Huge news. PG to Cavs back on maybe.

What would the Jazz want from Atlanta? They dont seem to have any pieces that would fit for the Jazz. I am also unsure what Atlanta is going for. It sounds like they are not keeping Millsap either. Maybe going into tank mode? Clearing cap space for potential dumps like what Lakers just did so they can pick up young players and picks?

I show they are at 64 million but Dunleavy is a team option so they will dump his 5 million. That leaves them at 59 million. Hardaway has a 3 million dollar QO that I assume they will offer but I guess they could pull that and get down to 56 million.

Terrible? I think it was a good deal for both teams.

I mean if they're going for a complete rebuild I guess Atlanta accelerated that. But Plumlee/Belinelli are borderline rotation players while Howard is still an average starting center. Saves them about 5 million this year, 12 next year, and then costs 12 million in the last year of Plumlee's deal. And they paid 10 spots in the draft for that.

I guess he is still on the trade block but not something the Jazz can offer. I think Butler is most likely to go to the Celtics.

KC Johnson: That said, Bulls remain active in talks on Butler. Parameters haven’t changed: Need players and certainty on high picks to commit to rebuild

Paul George is certainly still attainable for the Jazz

Mark Medina: I’m told Lakers + Pacers currently at standstill on Paul George trade involving either Randle or Clarkson & 27th and 28th pick. – via Twitter MarkG_Medina

Mark Medina: Nonetheless, Pacers will continue to talk to teams. I’m told it’s “highly likely” Paul George gets traded before the draft. – via Twitter MarkG_Medina

I only see one possible trade for the Jazz to get a All-star Caliber player in a trade and that is Paul George. It is risky but its not that big of assets that we would give up and those assets would not set us back much if at all if he leaves. The risk is pretty low and the reward is super high. This is a no brainer. We are not getting Lillard, Butler, Love or Porz. We dont have what those teams want.

To be fair, Phil appears to be an idiot as GM, so I'd at least look into that Porzingis one, lol. But yeah, if we can land George for late firsts we should do it.

We should trade for PG. Leaving the pacers is different than leaving a top 2 team in the West that has Hayward and Gobert. Even if he were to leave that season would be worth it. That team could hang w/GSW.
