Woj: Celtics working to land both Gordon Hayward and Paul George

I have said this before but if Hayward is intent on signing in Boston then a sign and trade is best for both parties.

Hayward will get more money
Boston can clear more cap space in the trade and free up some players that play the same position as Gordon
Utah gets a couple of pieces to start a rebuild.
Boston still has a million assets that they can bring in George

Boston has players that will need to be traded

Avery Bradley - 1 year 8.8 million but they wont be able to re-sign him with all the other players they will have to play
Jae Crowder - 3 years 22 million plays the same position as Gordon and George (but his contract is team friendly so they will try and keep him for bench depth)
Jason Tatum - Same position also and how do you develop a top 5 pick when there is not playing time.
jaylen Brown - Same position and same situation as tatum (one of them needs to go atleast)
Tyler Zeller - 1 year 8 million not an awful contract but for what he does he is grossly over paid.

DL just needs to pull the rug out from under Ainge and get involved in a three-way that sends PG to Cleveland and Love here.

I've been thinking "why not" about this all summer. Thing is, it's been pretty silent on our part but that is somewhat expected with this organization. I just don't see why DL would sit back while others are semmingly going big.

There is so much smoke... I am on a roller coaster with this daily.

If we don't make a move this week I think it is because we believe there isn't much of a shot of Hayward returning so why give up assets... cap space or picks to appease someone who is out.

Yes, if Hayward called Dennis and said he wanted to sign with Boston, why not take a couple of nice pieces of their hands? Crowder and Bradley would be good fits. It's doubtful Ainge would part with Tatum...that's who he needs to trade to Indiana.

Hope Lindsey can prove tampering. Would love to see Celtics lose draft picks. Lindsey and Quin have Russian connections. Use them to hack the Celtics phone and internet connections.

If ainge ends up dead in a trunk somewhere we will know what happened

Someone pointed out on twitter that until Hayward opts out we can talk with him... so that is good I guess. We should have an idea of what he wants and I don't think he'd give DL more false hope.

The worst thing that can happen is he leaves... the second worst thing is they make short term moves to appease him as he leaves.

I'm ok if Hayward leaves. I think Utah has two stud guards in Exum and Mitchell. A couple years away, but those two will seal the perimeter. Gobert is going to be a 20/10 player, just on P&R's, alley oops and putbacks.

If Favs is healthy, he gets a big extension (since Strayward would be gone). Hood is likely the other starter, but Lindsey would look for a FA or draft a SF next year.

Jazz would still have some money to get decent backups...Teo,Beverley, etc just to name a few possibilities.

I would reverse those - the second worst thing is if he leaves. The worst thing is if they make short term moves to appease him and he leaves.

So are we good with standing pat until his decision? We, obviously, lose cap space after July 1 and lose the Diaw team option trade chip.

We have until July 15th with Diaw, which is when the 2017-2018 portion of his contract becomes guaranteed.

If you can guard a 2, you can play the 2. If you can guard a 4, you can play a 4. Tatum probably is solely a 3 but Brown Hayward and George could play 2-4 pretty easily. Although I'd be surprised if the Celtics ended up with George, Hayward, Brown and Tatum at the end of the summer.

Paul George has been very public about how much he hates playing the 4.

Are you sure? I was under the impression options had to be picked up no later than the end of June.

Yes, that's when his contract become guaranteed. It's a pretty nice contract to have.

I'll be honest, if we got Crowder+ in a S&T I wouldn't be completely heart broken. Dang good player, great deal.

What's the move you think that will make Hayward stay? Do you think adding Ricky Rubio sways him one way or the other?

There won't be a sign and trade with Hayward. If Gordon is making this move to win now, he isn't going to require Boston to blow assets on getting him.
