Woj: Celtics working to land both Gordon Hayward and Paul George

My favorite part of this is the Celtics pulling Hayward aside and saying, "Gordon, we really want you to trust us on this. What we are going to do AFTER you sign is go out and get Paul George. I know that we have half the team that plays your position, and that we were unwilling to spend assets BEFORE you signed, but trust us, we are above board on this. But, what we need you to do right now is go out there and completely screw your previous team, teammates, and fans. THEN we will demonstrate to you how far our commitment to you and surrounding you with "win now" talent goes. You are not just an asset that we think we can get "for free," trust us."

Or "Hey Gordon, we can acquire another superstar to play with you at the snap of a finger. Or if you prefer, we can keep the team mostly intact at the top of the Eastern conference while also positioning our young guys to peak during the decline of LeBron."

The young guys in question also being small forwards.

If you can guard a 2, you can play the 2. If you can guard a 4, you can play a 4. Tatum probably is solely a 3 but Brown Hayward and George could play 2-4 pretty easily. Although I'd be surprised if the Celtics ended up with George, Hayward, Brown and Tatum at the end of the summer.

I hate Boston so much...

DL just needs to pull the rug out from under Ainge and get involved in a three-way that sends PG to Cleveland and Love here.

Hope Lindsey can prove tampering. Would love to see Celtics lose draft picks. Lindsey and Quin have Russian connections. Use them to hack the Celtics phone and internet connections.

I have said this before but if Hayward is intent on signing in Boston then a sign and trade is best for both parties.

Hayward will get more money
Boston can clear more cap space in the trade and free up some players that play the same position as Gordon
Utah gets a couple of pieces to start a rebuild.
Boston still has a million assets that they can bring in George

Boston has players that will need to be traded

Avery Bradley - 1 year 8.8 million but they wont be able to re-sign him with all the other players they will have to play
Jae Crowder - 3 years 22 million plays the same position as Gordon and George (but his contract is team friendly so they will try and keep him for bench depth)
Jason Tatum - Same position also and how do you develop a top 5 pick when there is not playing time.
jaylen Brown - Same position and same situation as tatum (one of them needs to go atleast)
Tyler Zeller - 1 year 8 million not an awful contract but for what he does he is grossly over paid.

I've been thinking "why not" about this all summer. Thing is, it's been pretty silent on our part but that is somewhat expected with this organization. I just don't see why DL would sit back while others are semmingly going big.

There is so much smoke... I am on a roller coaster with this daily.

If we don't make a move this week I think it is because we believe there isn't much of a shot of Hayward returning so why give up assets... cap space or picks to appease someone who is out.

Yes, if Hayward called Dennis and said he wanted to sign with Boston, why not take a couple of nice pieces of their hands? Crowder and Bradley would be good fits. It's doubtful Ainge would part with Tatum...that's who he needs to trade to Indiana.
