NAOS prediction: by end of 2017-18, Hood will be finalist for MIP

You implied more than just that, hun. You chose to write castigating remarks about some games in Rod's career and not others. The implication is that those are somehow defining. This is basic psychology. Rod was hurt, too, btw.

I implied that he sucked in the playoffs as well, which is a fact.

You tried to make a strawman argument with me and make what I said look silly by saying I was defining him by that. I did not define him by that. I think Hood will be a solid player if healthy. That is a big if though. It is hard to predict what he will do next season before our roster is set. If the roster is about the same I expect Hood to average 16-17 points per game and shoot about .400 from three.

I see no chance of him being the most improved player in the league unless he becomes the focal point of our offense, which means Hayward is gone. But maybe with just Hill gone he will get more looks and get to 18 ppg, depending on who the replacement PG is.

Gobert jumped up his scoring quite a bit and got no consideration. Hood would have to jump up to 19.5 points per game to make a similar scoring jump to what Gobert did. Although Gobert became a monster all over the court and again got almost no consideration.

He was playing well this season until he got hurt. Even never seemed right after that injury mid season. He did regress at a lot of things this season though which was not encouraging (even when healthy). Part of that was due to running the ball more through Hayward and Hill. Hood health is a huge concern though, just as much or more so than Favors. The rigor of the season seems too much for him.

What is best case scenario for Hood? Big season 20+ points? Then he gets a max offer from a team like Brooklyn or someone else. Do we match a max or near max offer for him.

Do we hope he has some struggles next season so his contract is reasonable?

Do we have room for him Hayward and Gobert to have max contracts? Is that a team to win it all?

I am in favor of trading Hood if we can get a solid player in return. If not I guess we just see what we got and hope he stays healthy and we can see what we got in him and make a good decision about re-signing him.

The best case scenario is definitely a breakout season and then figure it out from there.

do you know what a strawman argument is? It doesn't seem like you do.

That is a good scenario. My best case scenario is trading him for a better player, an equal player on a good contract or a player with more potential.

just no. You're having a bad day.

I am having a great day, this day has been fantastic for me as usual. Glad you're back on Jazz fans. I missed your angry responses and feeling like your right on everything, its that awesome early 20s mentality we all miss. It makes the board slightly more entertaining.

Any other arguments you want to make up for me that are easy to knock down?

How about Hayward? You think he stays? Arent you one of the people who thought we should not have maxed him last time? Are you hoping he leaves or stays?

I think we should go back to your rock-solid argument about how Exum outplayed Mack all year + how the stats show it. I really liked the part how you then reversed course on both points and pretended that you'd landed exactly where you wanted to. Wild ride.

Or we could go back to your not-defining-yet-defining circular mess about Rodney Hood, and how I've somehow constructed a strawman argument within your maelstrom. You pick.

Also, incredible disses in the quoted post here.

Also, don't worry, I'll disappear again as soon as Hayseed's future is known.

I have not reversed course. I think Exum outplayed Mack across the season. You are the one claiming i have switched.

Sorry you don't see how making up an argument for me and then trying to shoot down that pretend argument is poor logic. Not much I can do for you.

It's not helping your case to keep claiming I am saying things I'm not. Maybe take a minute smoke another bowl and relax?

Also I hope you don't disappear, you are entertaining. We need you and Hack back, you two are good reading.

If Hayward leaves, then I say start Exum and hood, and lets see if they can take the next step. They will either prove that they can, and we re-sign them, or they will prove that they can't, and we get a high draft pick next year.

That's reasonable, although with the other talent Utah has, we probably won't get a high draft pick. Also, remember Utah MIGHT be in this situation because Lindsey rebuilt (vs. retooled) up until this season. Hayward toiled away on losing teams. Would Gobert be willing to do the same? If Utah misses the playoffs for the next few years, does he leave as a FA?

I still see Lindsey bringing in a veteran PG to split minutes with Exum. Without Gordon, they'd need offense: Teo?

With Gordon, Hill would be the 1st choice if Utah can afford him (or if Gordon has given that ultimatum as a condition of him signing). Otherwise, if Hill still wants too much, Lindsey could go 3&D with a trade for Beverley. Or even Rubio.

Hood would be the featured scorer if Hayward leaves. Consistency, and durability are the two biggest fears here. We know that Hood can light it up, and has potential to be a big time scorer if healthy.

Exum needs a chance to play, ie be in the rotation. I don't even care if he starts, but he cannot have a string of DNPs in 2018.

Also, Burks may get a chance to be featured a lot more if Hayward leaves. Favors as well.

Hood, Burks, Favors = a lot of talent, but so much health risk/scare.

Well said. All of them can step up. But health has been a major problem. I think Burks gets traded eventually, though.

And I hope Lindsey is right about Dante. Exum does need minutes; but he needs to have earned them.

I don't like this. If he wasn't on a bad team he wouldn't have got the same minutes or opportunities and definitely wouldn't have an offense centered around him. Its what made him in a sense. Gordon Hayward hasn't been the BEAST his is now his whole career, only the past 2 seasons.

Now he just needs to #repaythefaith and he'll get to where he wants to go.

Was he the starter this season and the #1 option with JJ, Diaw and Hill on the team? He could have had the same developmental curve, the same number of minutes over the last four seasons, with quality vets as backups instead of scrubs. A vet - or two - would have taken the mins away from guys like Elijah, Chris Johnson, etc., not from the young core Utah was trying to develop. And its hilarious this year Lindsey finally acknowledges the team needs "veteran leadership." If anything, learning from players like JJ, Diaw and Hill would have HELPED the young guys develop faster, not hindered their growth.

Lindsey did a GM tank to get lottery picks by purposely keeping the bench very low on talent. Portland did the same to get Lillard. Just a vet or two would have likely made Utah a playoff team the last several years. Instead, fighting for the playoffs 2 seasons ago, Utah trades for Mack. Fighting for positioning this past year, with several players hobbled by injuries, Dennis trades for...NO ONE! Oh yeah, the Jazz have been 28th-30th in payroll, so it's not like they had to watch their wallet. What message has that sent Hayward? Does he truly believe a cheap franchise will suddenly change their stripes and go into the tax to build a contender? If I were Hayward, I'd believe Ainge over Lindsey.

You have a point here. Ive always felt for Hayward in a sense he never had a veteran to take him under his wing.

I think DL has gone the right way about building this team though, we've just been cursed with injuries the last 2 yrs. He's big on locker room chemistry also and bringing in vets to back up rookies doesn't bode well for good team chemistry imo.
