Rubio traded to Jazz

C'mon. You're not this stupid.

Ricky is the kind of player that is a little bit on an enigma... people will either hate him or love him... I understand why some are not fans of his game.

I think y'all are nuts... I think Rubio is a solid pickup for basically nothing. His shooting my hurt us but when's the last time we've even had a guy put up a consistent 8-10 assist a game. That's points right there.

It drove me nuts last year how Rudy would give his all on the PnR, but would never get the ball. He'd post up and nobody even cared to look. These are things Rubio excells at.

Key thing is that he also knows where to find our shooters in the spots they are best at. If Hayward comes back we won't see him sit back and play hesitant because we have a guy who can get him involved and facilitate. Same for Hood, Favors, and his good friend Ingles.

If Hayward leaves, at least we have the pg position on lock and don't have to worry about overpaying Hill.

Things Jazz fans can expect from Rubio:

1. As some of us have said already, you're going to see many new fans around here from now on. Rubio is not only loved in Spain but in plenty of places around the world, he's an absolutely great kid, pure joy both on and off the court (he wasn't that joyful for much of last season though, his mother and grandmother died only a few months apart and he also wasn't too happy with the way the Wolves handled his trade rumors), so many people will follow him to Utah like they did to Minnesota.

2. Rubio is the ultimate pro. He's an incredibly hard working guy and never gives a possession up, neither on offense nor defense. You will see him set screens on offense for a wing like he usually did for Wiggins last year, you will see him take plenty of charges (usually one of the league leaders in that aspect), you will see him dive for the ball and fight for rebounds. He plays all out all game.

3. You are, of course, going to see the ball fly all over the court. There are two playmakers in the league who really see things happening before they're actually there while also having the ability to thread the needle time and again, whether on the break or on half-court sets, which is what separates them from the rest. One of them is Chris Paul, the other one is Ricky Rubio.

4. Some of you (not everyone, I'm sure) are going to be really surprised with his defense. Rubio's D is most known for his steals, but what most casual fans don't know is that defense has always been his calling card along with his playmaking, ever since he was a kid. He's truly a pest, he's great staying in front of his man thanks to his awareness, instincts and length (he's 6'4/6'5 with a 6'9 wingspan) and he's one of the best help defenders in the league. It's no coincidence that his multi-year DRAPM is off the charts, historically great. Although he usually gets a vote here and there for the all defensive teams, he's been usually very underrated on that aspect. Maybe this is the year when that changes, although Rudy Gobert may think differently based on his experience...

5. While people see Rubio and they think of his low scoring, what Ricky does is bolster the offense with his passing and ability to run the team. He gets guys the ball in better positions to score, at the right time, with precision and on their pocket. He's always lead offenses with high ORTGs despite the lack of talent and/or shooting. And regardless of what some may think, he's improved his scoring efficiency every single year in the league (admitedly from a very low starting point) except for the 2014-15 season when he came back from injury before being fully healed and played only 22 games. He's still not going to be a high scorer, cause that's not his game, but he has a knack for drawing fouls and has a better understanding on when to shoot the ball (and is now more willing to do so).

All in all, I think plenty of Jazz fans are going to be pleasantly surprised with him. Hopefully the team gets to re-sign GH and find a nice stretch-4, and there's no doubt they can be even better than they were last season.

Nope. I'll bet they still go after Hill. If they can re-sign him, they can still flip Rubio at the deadline and avoid the tax.

This is just DL being proactive with an insurance policy on missing Hill. `

Does it get tiring being wrong all the time? I'm guessing it would.

Rubio at the point, Hill as a combo G, and Exum on some other team. FTW

Anybody see Pelton's grade on the trade and report?

Yes, Pelton gave the Jazz an 'A'. Here's an exceprt --

The clock was ticking down to the final hours on the $16 million or so in 2016-17 cap space the Jazz had remaining after they were unable to convince starting point guard George Hill to agree to a renegotiation and extension during the season.

When the 2017-18 league year officially begins after the moratorium, the cap holds for free agents Hill and Gordon Hayward would put Utah over the cap. For that matter, so would retaining just Hayward's cap hold, and even if both Hill and Hayward left, Rudy Gobert's extension kicking in means the Jazz wouldn't likely have as much space as they did Friday, the last day of the 2016-17 league year.

Love this pickup ,Ricky Rubio a Jazz.

This definitely means Alec Burks ,Rodney Hood or Dante Exum shouldn't buy a house in SLC yet.One of them(Alec Burks)most likely won't be around the next season. The jazz offense looks to be a funner offense to watch with Rubio playing and the way Hill was torched by opposing PG's showed his defense was over rated and probably wasn't going to get better.

Revised lineup pre free agency,

PG) Rubio,Exum
SG) Hood,Burks,Mitchell
SF) Hayward,Ingles
PF) Favors,Johnson,Balomboy
C) Gobert,Bradley

You consistently underestimate how much money actually factors into the Jazz's thinking. Even the Warriors are concerned about their situation and are willing to let Iggy meet with teams and walk potentially.

DL is no dummy. Not by a long way. There is no chance he does this if it gets in the way of Hayward coming back. No way at all. IMO there are a number of things this can mean but this is not what determines Haywards decision. And they still can sign Hill. Nice to have a point first PG

He's a legit starting PG on a good contract right when the Jazz needed one. This move may allow the Jazz to pursue another forward in addition to re-signing Ingles. There's no way not to appreciate this move.

Get back to me when the reports come in that Utah didn't attempt to re-sign George Hill.

Thanks.
