What's new

Rubio traded to Jazz

Pros:
-Unique player
-Fun to watch because of creativity with handle and passing ability
-Adds new element of defense the Jazz lack with disruptive ability to play passing lanes
-Should influence the Jazz to play with a faster pace
-Decent enough FT rate despite lack of scoring ability (and an upper tier FT shooter)
-Respectable pull-up game from midrange
-Perfect age with rest of core

Cons:
-Can't finish around the rim
-Poor spot-up shooter
-Injury history

This also very well allows us to re-sign at least one core player next year if not two now. Signing Hill to 20-25M per would've made that extremely difficult.

Maybe Lindsey approached Hayward about that and Hayward understands and would prefer say Rubio and Hood to just Hill.

Also, regarding your post about the financial decision to do this. It's honestly tough to disagree with this and it angers me when I think about that ******** press conference the Millers held when announcing putting the team into a trust (or something) and thus putting more money back into the team. All ******** unless we somehow also sign Hill which seems insanely unlikely now OR we spend more money elsewhere on top of Hayward and Ingles (should we retain them).

has played just 70 or more games three times in his six NBA seasons due to injuries.

62% of season 1
70% of season 2
100% of season 3
27% of season 4
93% of season 5
91% of season 6

Plays on average 74% of the season.

edit: For comparison, George Hill has played 599 out of 722 possible regular season games, for an average of 83%.

I am gonna miss Hill because he had a killer instinct and was a leader for the team. Dude had ice in his veins. I like Rubio but fun isn't killer instinct. Wish Hill would have signed the good deal we gave him.

Unless there are other moves in the works, the Jazz will be fielding an inferior team next year (and that's assuming Hayward stays). Rubio is a nice player, but he's a poor fit who will seriously hurt spacing. Oh, and Hill is as good as gone. I'm sad.

Either way, welcome aboard Ricky Rubio.

In the vacuum of getting Rubio for a 1st round non-lottery pick I think it's a great deal.

Ricky Rubio playing on the slowest paced team who starts two traditional big men, that just doesnt sound good.

Seems like an easy fix. Increase the pace/tempo and don't start 2 traditional bigs.

I think signing Hill made for the best Jazz team. I think if the Jazz had a richer owner, or were in a bigger market where they were less concerned about money, they would have paid for Hill and Ingles.

Is there some reason the Jazz can't still sign Hill? They stagger the minutes, and Hill can play off the ball...

Free agency hasn't even started. Let's wait and see what happens before we predict an inferior team.
