What's new

Kyrie to Utah?

Where do you live? If Utah, just wait until DM plays for 1 year. Do the Jazz still hold Jr. Jazz camps? Wonder if DM would do those. He'd be wildly popular.

I have Kyrie 3 shoes. They are beautiful.

They all love that awful, contested 'clutch' three he sank in the final minute of game seven last year (the only shot that went in during an avalanche of bad ones)

Just an fyi, in the last two years in the playoffs (as 23 and 24 year old) he averaged over 25 ppg shooting better than 47% from the field (damn good for a high volume guard), and over 40% from three (6 attempts per game)
So I would say he made plenty of shots.

Those are not just for the finals though, they are his numbers for the playoffs the last two years. I couldn't find anything on basketball reference that showed his finals only numbers.

Also (and this isn't in reference to your post 8) last year was his best year of his career. With him being 25 years old he might still be improving going forward. Played 72 games last year too. (I think some of the missed games were games of "rest")

Would Cleveland wait until December? Because I don't think Rubio can be traded until then.

@Cy...I agree Love to Utah has always made the most sense.

I have serious doubts about Irving even entertaining the idea of staying in Utah. He will be gone the first chance he gets.

Could probably say that about any player on another team of his caliber. (Other than lillard I guess)
So we should never try to get really good players from other teams I guess.

What are you talking about? Who wouldn't be? I'm saying that I would be stoked if mitchell was a 4 time all star for the jazz by 25. You wouldn't?

Oh I see, you are saying kyrie wouldn't be a 4 time all star if he played in the west. I definitely think it's less likely but he still might be. No way to know for sure. It would depend on what team in the west he played for and how well he played on that team imo.
I think irvings name pops up when national media discusses the top point guards in the league. Not at the very top but I'm sure he would be in the discussion. (Irving made an all nba team after all. That includes both east and west players btw)
Lillard made multiple all star teams iirc and he doesn't play defense and is a chucker (a less efficient one) and his teams have not been that great.

Lillard has yet to make the All star team.

I'd say that about some players more than others. I'm not saying don't try. I am saying I think he is vey likely to bolt. So you better have a good plan to convince him to stay.

Lived w/ a friend for a few months in a house that was pretty close to Tulane.
That's the area where I lived. I watched the first New Orleans hornets for jazz game at a bar out there. It was called a game against the first team the city couldn't support against the next team the city couldn't support. Fans wanted the jazz name back and said utah should be called the tabernacle choir.

I was at that game.

I agree. It's risky. But if the risk doesn't involve rudy or mitchell then I think it's a risk that should be taken.

Have to hope that he likes his teammates, the culture, the coaches and management, and the city and that the team wins. Then maybe he stays. Though unlikely imo.

Btw, in this discussion I might be coming across as some big kyrie homer. That's not really what I am though. My argument is basically that if the jazz have a shot at a young star player on a good contrac that doesn't require us to gut the team then they should go for it.

I would be saying the same things if we were talking about Anthony davis, jimmy butler, Paul george, KAT, porz, westbrook, curry, giannis, lillard, etc etc etc. Some of those guys are probably older than irving (not gonna look it up) and some on more expensive contracts, and some on shorter contracts (again, I'm not gonna look all this up), some better than him, some may be worse...

I just think if the jazz have an actually chance at a young star on a good contract and don't have to give up too much then I think it's something to be pursued 99% of the time. (For me boogie would be the 1% of the time that you should not try to get them lol)

I might actually be more on board for Cousins than Kyrie.

You a Kyrie homer. Makes sense, being a Burks homer is probably a gateway drug into being a Kyrie homer.

I doubt you could find a single post from me praising kyrie outside of this thread. (Maybe in a playoffs thread talking about a specific individual game or something) I'm certainly not a Kyrie homer.
I am a big time lebron homer though and you could find lots of posts by me showing that.

I will admit that this thread has made me like irving more than I did before.
I have never been a big irving fan. I thought he was older than he actually is, I thought he was more expensive than he actually is, and I totally expected his shooting percentages from the field, 3 point line, and free throw line to be much worse than they actually are. (His assists numbers were slightly higher than I thought they would be too)

Still think he is a horrible defender and a little over rated though. And still would be happy to get him if it didn't cost us much.
