Game Of Thrones

This wasn't exactly just a Dothraki v Lannister fight. Drogon broke their line, then he obliterated it. Also the Dothraki has the element of surprise. Sure the Lannisters got into a defensive line but that's not even remotely the same thing as having a battle plan for the Dothraki.

Yeah, you are right about Drogon. I should have mentioned it but I don't think Dothraki will be useless as I thought. Tehy would have showed something. Instead, they were badasses who could stand on a horse, shoot arrows then jump to another horse.

I view the Dothraki as basically Huns. They had massive success against organized armies. Eventually they got taken down but they were extremely successful for a long time.

Nothing alike other than being a cavalry force. Huns and Mongols were much more sophisticated, wore better armor and they were disciplined. They had actual tactics and wanted to build empires. Attila, married a foreigner iirc. Dothrakis are barbarians who just raid and slaughter.

I also remember Martin saying it was based on Huns, Mongols and a few others but I don't see anything other than excellent horsemanship.

Arent the Dothraki known as the best fighters in an open field?

Difference being known to and actually being.

I was probably wrong, I would have liked to see that battle without Drogon.
You get that if the writers say they're good then they're good, right? They didn't actually have a battle.

Martin doesn't control what they do on the show.

He provided the outlines. May be Dothraki won't be as effective in the books.

I just thought it would be a fun twist if Dothraki got decimated because they lack better weapons and armors.

Edit: oh, show writers. I didn't get that at first. Yeah, they have a tendency to crowning moment of awesome.

You're basically right. Having fancy skills doesn't do much when you're naked, while your enemy is encased in steel. Technology is the biggest difference in war, historically speaking.

It was hinted that a Westeros army is overall stronger compared to Dothraki when Jorah had a conversation with Rakharo. This was sorta verified later on when Jorah beat that one Dothraki dude in a 1 on 1 fight largely due to his armor. Wasn't Daenarys at first going to try to conquer westeros with just 1 Dothraki tribe but now she has pretty much all of them? At this point I think the Dothraki pretty much can take on any army in westeros in large part due to their numbers.

Wait, how does winning a 1-on-1 fight prove that one army is better than the other exactly?

Yeah, that doesn't really add up. It shows the advantages a Westerosi knight has over a Dothraki warrior, but I doubt most fighters are going to have access to the same quality of armaments not to mention combat training.
