My Step Son Doesn't Shut Up About The Show With His Friends Lately And I Was Happy To Buy Him The Books Because I Find It Refreshing A Freshman In High School Likes To Read In His Spare Time. So Anyhow I Had Some Time To Myself Last Night And Began Watching The First Season On Demand To See What All The Hype Is About.

I Was Shocked And Disgusted By A Rape Scene Very Early On. I Can Handle Gore, Killing And Nudity But I Found The Few Episodes I Watched To Be Cheapened By It. It Was Made Very Evident That Blonde Woman Did Not Want To Be Forced To Marry That Barbarian Savage And That She Was Terrified Of Him. I Think We All Would Of Inferred What Happened If They Just Showed Them Going Into The Hut. Why Did They Show A Rape Scene On HBO? Just For The Nudity? It Was Very Heavy-Handed And Disgusting.

I Informed His Mother About What's On That Show And He Won't Be Able To Watch Anymore And I Confiscated The Books Back. When He Goes Off To College I Will Give Him His Books Back But That Show Isn't Appropriate For A 14 Year Old. Does Anyone Else Agree Or Have Any Children That Watch That Show?

I tend to watch questionable things before deciding whether my children to view them. It's part of Parenting 101. In Parenting 102, they teach proper capitalization.

Thank You For Your Judgement Although I Began Dating His Mother Less Than A Year Ago. I Called Him My Step Son So I Didn't Have To Explain Our Relationship When That Has Nothing To Do With My Post. I Have Two Children Of My Own And Raised Them Just Fine Thank You Very Much But Whatever They Can And Can't Watch Is Now On There Mother Who Has Full Custody.

Those scenes represent the world they live in. It isn't a glamorization of rape or the lifestyle.

It's an excellent show and an even better series of books. They are intended for a mature audience, which I think a mentally healthy 14 year old qualifies as as far as this story is concerned. If the boy has been extremely sheltered or has a hard time differentiating between reality and fantasy I'd do exactly what you did. Otherwise I think you overreacted.

Well Put! To Be Frank His Mother Was The One Who Demanded I Take The Books Back And He No Longer Watch The Show But I Shall Talk To Her. We've Both Overheard The Things He And His Friends Talk About And Its Far Worse Then That Show. You Should Be A Lawyer!

Sheltered kids are always the ones that are the most ****ed up, in my opinion. Let your step son observe all those beautiful boobies.

Guilty Confession I Am Now Hooked On The Show After Watching A Couple More Episodes Of The First Season. I Enjoy The Excellent Story Telling And How Gripping It Is. I Must Say Joffrey Is A Boss. He Has Panache! I Am Hoping To Catch Up Before Sunday. Is Season 1 Better Then Season 2?

Shamefully I Took The Day Off Of Work Today And Completed The First Two Seasons On HBO And Cannot Wait For Sunday!

I Cannot Wait To See The White Walkers Invade King's Landing! That Should Be A Great War. I Predict Aria Takes Over The Throne At Some Point Because She's The Only Protag In The Show!

I assume so, but how sad is that? Every new poster that becomes really active right away and is any way quirky is assumed to be an alt.

Hey, countonbuckets (who ironically didn't put any capital letters in his username), tell us a little about yourself. Do you deny outright that you've ever been a user of this site before under a different account?

My User Name Was All Caps But Appeared As Such And I'm Not Sure Why Nor Do I Care To Change It. I Hadn't Posted On This Site Until A Couple Weeks Ago Or Whenever That Was But I Have Visited The Jazz Forum Many Times Over The Last Few Years. I Am A Former Season Ticket Holder And Father To Four. Biologically I Have Two Children But Ironically I Don't See Them Because Of A Bad Divorce. I Am Dating A Wonderful Woman Who Has Two Children Of Her Own From A Previous Marriage. I Am Currently Unemployed But Trade Online Most Days. I Did Well For Myself Monetarily In My Twenties And Thirties So The Pressure To Find A Full Time Job Is Meager. I Am A Big Jazz Fan Who Is Confused About Why Tyrone Corbin Is The Head Coach And Why So Many Posters Have An Issue With My Typing Style When It's Legible And Properly Spelled.

So you don't deny being an alt? Interesting.

I like how people talk to the alt as if he's serious. This is a great thread. Make some more.

I think when you make something forbidden people want to do it more. My parents said ever since I was like 10 years old that I can drink alcohol when I am older and get drunk they would drive me home as long as I call them. My dad drinks like 5 beers a day and my mom still occasionally drinks. I have never drank alcohol in my life and I am 22.

My parents always told me that if I wanted I could get tattoos or piercings. Two things that I have absolutely no desire to do. I don't know if they would have forbidden it if I would feel differently. I'd like to say I wouldn't, but who knows?

I love the show and cant wait for tonight..... book 3 was the best of the books, so im very optimistic and excited for this season to start...... there will be an event during this season or next (this season covers half of book 3 and next season the other half) that made me more emotional than anything i have ever read in any other book (i read alot of books). I was upset for days

(i have read all the books)

Seeing the previews it seems to me this season will incorporate parts of book 3 and book 4. Initially they were one giant book but GRR Martin decided to split them up and make one really great book (book 3) and one big waste of time following around all the less interesting characters (book 4). There is a lot of chronological overlap between those two books, so it makes sense. I was wondering what the show could possibly do if they had to make a season based only on book 4.

EDIT: It kind of seems like I'm explaining this to you, fishonjazz, but I'm not. Just trying to help out anyone who might be following along.
