He does have a history of degrading other countries/races. Of course, he doesn't call the Japanese or Saudis as rapists and murderers. He uses nicer more refined language and focuses more on protectionalism. It's really not that different than many of his rants against countries/races today that he deems as freeloaders/bloodsuckers of American goodwill. It's not that much of a jump from degrading Japan and accusing them on exploiting us to then ranting about how Mexicans are exploiting us to sell drugs, death, and destruction.

So while I agree, it's up in the air on whether he actually believes in white nationalism, I do tend to think he more likely than not, does. It's definitely worth a conversation. And if he does believe in White Nationalism, then what? How can we address race issues if the president clearly isn't interested in solving them?

Could you imagine the uproar had a large group of Muslims or BLM done the same thing? Tanks, riot police, and tear gas would've been used. Their safe protest last night is the very definition of white privilege. They're merely using the Lee statue as a reason to justify their hate. America today has its own Goebbels network of am radio, info wars, Brietbart, and Fox News. the president openly incites hatred at Hitler Youth like Boy Scout jamborees. The NRA clearly advocates in recent ads for a white uprising.

And we wonder why mosques are being torched in Minnesota and Nazi groups are marching in Virginia?

I thought it was abudantly obvious that Trump emboldened racists, white nationalists, and the Alt Right during the campaign. I believe I pointed it out repeatedly at the time. It was clear to me at least that during a time of great cultural and social change, here came our version of the Strong Man, to cater to reactionary fears. I studied enough history to see it coming and God knows I warned everyone within earshot and then some. It's not the first time in Western history that such a thing has happened. A demagogue appealing to reactionary forces. Pretty basic and pretty worriesome. Nothing, absolutely nothing, that has transpired since his election has changed my mind on that score. Know history or be prepared to repeat it. And the demagogue still can't get himself to condemn this breed of follower because, in his heart of hearts, he is one of them.

I think we are lucky in a way. As a strong man Trump rose to power, but I think almost all of us are beginning to see "the emperor has no clothes" and the strong man the idiots and racists wanted turned out to be a somewhat weaker than average man. Trump's impotence is a welcome blessing, or at least that's what Melania says.

One thing that Trump's candidacy and presidency has done is show me how many people in my circle of family and friends have far more racist views than I had ever suspected. Most are not alt-right levels, but it has been disappointing and upsetting to me. Calling them out on it does not work. It makes them defensive and more likely to hold onto their viewpoints. These are people that I love, and fighting them and belittling them will only hurt our relationships. It is difficult for me. I cannot understand how they have come to their conclusions. They cannot understand how I have come to mine.

The only thing I can do is discuss situations as they arise. I explain my reasoning while attempting to not be condescending. It is slowly working on a few of my closest family members (Fox News devotees). Sometimes I can get them to see things in a slightly different way for a particular event, and I'm hoping they will apply that to other events. And I sometimes change the way I think in a small measure as well.

I had been conflicted about the removal of Confederate flags and statues in the past because it did seem like we were trying to erase American history. The more I learned about it, however, I am no longer conflicted. While preserving that history is important, it has no place in parks and around government buildings. It belongs in museums, similar to the new museum in Utah about the Topaz internment camp. It is appropriate to remember the atrocity that our country inflicted on a minority race during World War II in the hope that we will never do such a thing again. However, it would not be appropriate to install monuments and fly the flag of the internment camp around the city square (yes, I understand it isn't exactly the same).

The same goes for the Confederacy. They fought a war against our country, in effect, and they lost. It makes little sense to me that people glorify that. It would almost be like having Japanese monuments touting the victory at Pearl Harbor on our government property. Yeah, they ultimately lost the war, but hey, look at how great a job they did at the beginning. So much to admire with their surprise attack. (Again, I see the differences)

Confederate symbols became popular during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's. That isn't a coincidence. As was evidenced this weekend, Confederate symbols are a touchstone to those who are opposed to others that are different from themselves, and to those who have hidden these dark parts of themselves in the past but are emboldened by the current national climate.

Still, I agree with Red's viewpoint that there was little to be gained by protesting the white nationalist protestors. The Constitution protects their rights to be racist. Battling it out in the public square isn't likely to solve a thing or change anyone's minds. This is a battle of ideas, not of weapons.

So with Bannon out, the actual fake news rag, Breitbart, says it's going to start attacking Trump. It's going to be so confusing for the idiots to unravel. Trump on one side telling them now that Brietbart is fake news, while one of their preferred bubble fortresses attacks their hero.
 
The Sexret Service has depleted its funds to pay its agents, due to the President's frequent trips and large family. Didn't Trump say that, unlike Obama, he would have no time for golf? Yep, he did...

Golf cart rentals have cost the agents $60,000, and the money goes to the President's country clubs.

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump's family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast.

Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.

The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it has not relented in the first seven months of the administration. Agents must protect Trump – who has traveled almost every weekend to his properties in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia – and his adult children whose business trips and vacations have taken them across the country and overseas.

"The president has a large family, and our responsibility is required in law,'' Alles said. "I can't change that. I have no flexibility.''
