Welcome to Colton's Mock Draft Compilation, 5.0. Last update before the draft lottery. Here are who the mock drafts are listing as the "best players". See below for details. It should give a pretty good idea of who will be available when the Jazz pick.

Ranking details: I used the following mock drafts as "voters" for the best players. That is, I assumed they ranked the players in the order that they felt like the players deserved to be drafted. (This is an incorrect assumption, because some mock drafts account for perceived team need, but it should be close.) Then I used the "instant run-off voting" algorithm in a program I wrote to deduce who deserved to be ranked in the top spot, then in the second spot, then in the third spot, and so forth. Changes from v 4.0: I found a bunch of new mock drafts, and eliminated the ones (for now) from my previous compilations that had not been updated since May 1.
 
Why would we draft thompson at 12 when we already have Millsap?

Give me singleton or the Jimmer before Thompson. We don't need anymore undersized PFs.
 
To be honest pick 12 doesn't look any better than pick 24. I would start taking offers for that pick or trade it for a pick next year, even one that projects to be lower. There is a chance the Jazz miss the 2012 draft if Golden State is among the worst 7 teams and if the Jazz pick is 13 or lower (goes to Minny). We don't want to miss that draft and this might be the time to make sure of it.

There is only one sure fire way not to miss out...we've got to tank next year. Painful as it would be to sit through another bad season it would be worth it if we got a top 6 pick.

Tanking implies trying to lose. Sucking implies trying but losing. I think the Jazz are going to suck, but the results will be the same.... a sticked thread 4000 posts long about the 2012 lottery.
 
I really think Utah's going to be pretty decent and will make the playoffs next year. I just don't think Ty can handle a full year of tanking! Plus, can Jazz fans handle another losing season?
 
Question if the Suns really want to get another PF. Would you guys do that Millsap trade for Lopez, Peitrus (1 year left on deal) and there 13th pick? Yes maybe Utah could get more out of Millsap. But I think drafting a Euro Big at 6, Jimmer at 12 and Chris Singleton at 13 would be an amazing draft. Plus, Utah would have a much deeper bench!

I still want Barnes.
 
The top 10 is pretty solid which potential starters. After that it is roll players and best bets. If Utah can manage to get 2 Top 10 picks, I think it will be a solid draft and help the team.

I really like Barnes too. Lets just hope Golden State Picks Jimmer and they don't get the big man they need!! And Singleton looks like he has some serious upside?

The Jazz would never lose on purpose. You are right, we may very well suck again next year, and get two more lottery picks. Ours and the Kings.
I guess my point is if we are going to be in the lottery again I hope its not 9-14. I want us to be at least top 10. Fringe lottery will hurt a lot.

I'm hoping we either make the playoffs, or get a top 8 pick. Barely missing the playoffs will really sting, and will probably miss out on the really good players in the lottery.

If the Jazz barely miss the playoffs, they probably won't have their own pick. There's a chance the Jazz don't draft at all next year (if GS does bad enough).
 
The Jazz just have to play next year like they did the 2nd half of last year and we should have a top 6 pick locked up.
I won't hope for that because I want them to win... but I still wouln't cry too much if they were that bad.
I would just hate to see what that does to our players if that happens.
 
I think that Utah will make a few trades around draft day, with the likes of Okur, Bell & possibly Millsap being moved. And I just don't see how Utah wont make the playoffs this next year.

Good luck to us moving Okur until he proves he can play. Yes, he has an expiring contract so perhaps closer to trade deadline we might be able to trade him.
