No I think Hood, if he makes no large leap in skill or style progression, is a JR Smith type with unique shotmaking skills. He is best as a starter who plays off playmakers.

And I really don't know why people are so down on Hood. He was a good player these last 2 years besides getting injured. If that's all he is, that's still a top 15 starting shooting guard in a league where shooting matters.

So he's an average/below average starter at his position... who has trouble staying healthy and has some anxiety issues. He's older and had a good amount of experience so I think a big leap is likely not in the cards. He may get a little better.

If that was it I think I could be okay but you add in the inconsistency and I'm not sure that is a guy you can plan around.

He's a fine player but kind of replaceable and if I could get an asset like a first rounder that could turn into something bigger and free up the salary we'd be paying him and allocate it elsewhere I would probably do it.

I'm not hell bent on keeping the guy when he gets expensive because we drafted him... if there weren't good offers for him then you keep him and do your best to sign him to a deal.

No way? Serious.

Mitchell's first step is not as quick as Exum. Mitchell has excellent footwork and has that spin move and stop on a dime thingy... But he mainly blows by bigs when they are switched on him and uses the picks to get off longer athletic guards. And when he does penetrate deep - he will continue to struggle to finish cause he is 'small'. When players stop biting on his moves, he will get challenged near the rim.

Exum doesn't need anyone or anything to penetrate deep.

Man - you bailed on Exum too quick. He is the guy you're talking about.

Mitchell is a way bigger upgrade over Hood!

I wonder how likely it is that Orlando would be willing to trade Aaron Gordon once he comes back down to earth.. he seems like the type of player that would fit in perfectly with our team right now.

I think he is a stud, but not a go-to 1st option scorer. He has a game "glue" type game, but with length and athletic ability. Just from a physical standpoint it's really reminiscent of watching AK attack the basket where it's just freaky looking given how long and fluid he is and the way he just extends around the rim. Maybe he figures it out though and becomes a big time scorer though, who knows, it's in the cards.

I just don't see the Lakers doing anything that rash revolving around Kuzma or Ingram. They will try to leverage Randle and Clarkson to get rid of Deng, and I like neither of those dudes.

You're way higher on Hood than most. I'm beginning to think he's a bench scorer at best. He's not a defender or a play maker for other's, he doesn't finish that well off of his own dribble and he forces more bad shots than Mitchel does. Of the guys in our starting lineup that Mitchel may replace I see Hood as the most likely. He's just not that good and way too inconsistent and unreliable to think he'll ever be more than a bench scorer on a playoff team.

Hood has the most trade value of the players i would want to trade. My biggest problem with Hood is he is inconsistent and when his shot doesn't fall he really doesn't contribute in other ways. I still like him but if there is a deal which allows the Jazz to improve than I would trade him.

This is why he should be a backup. He doesn't do anything but score for a team. If he's not hitting his shot he's virtually worthless on the court. And he's way to inconsistent to be relied upon as a starting SG for a good team. JR Smith is his likely best case scenario. And that only works on a team with a couple of great players to make up for his deficiencies.
