We are over 10 games into the season. There are glaring needs. If you want to retool, now we have a first look at what the team will be this year.

We need relief to chase an all star. So why no this:

Jazz Trade: Derrick Favors + 2nd round Draft Pick
Milwaukee Trade: Jabari Parker & $3 million Trade Exception

Why do the Jazz do it? The Jazz get a close look at Jabari when he comes back. Jazz get the first chance to extend/sign a potential All Star player who would compliment Hood and Mitchell. The Jazz are also in the driver seat on signing him because he will be a restricted free agent and because the Jazz will have cleared $4 million from the books that they could offer Jabari above their current state. They Jazz would have $70,000 on the books guaranteed next season before resigning Thabo, Neto, Hood, and Jabari.

Why does Milwaukee do it? I think that signing Bledsoe means they are a lot less likely to resign Jabari. The Bucks just lost Monroe ($17 million expiring) and took back Bledsoe ($14.5 Million and $15 million in 2018/2019). It already looked very difficult for the Bucks to be able to afford resigning Jabari. They didn't extend Jabari last Oct. Now it looks less likely again unless Giannis and Jabari are the highest paid two players on their roster. Picking up the player option on Jabari next year means the Bucks wouldn't be able to put much additional talent next to Giannis. They would be at $111 million with just 11 players on the books in 2018 just picking up the player option on Jabari. Then signing him for anything north of $17 million would mean that they would have $97 million tied up in 8 players. They would be paying big luxury tax assuming Jabari only accepts $17 million which is unlikely. Other teams might offer as much as $20 million for him on potential so they likely will be going north of $100 million. Instead the Bucks get an upgrade at the 4 spot NOW to replace Monroe's minutes. Plus the expiring Favors contract ($12 million) means they clear some cap space in 2018 and can partner up Giannis with another All star by 2019. The East is wide open now. The Magic are top 2 in the East right now for goodness sake! The Bucks should make the playoffs, but Monroe barely played before. Now they would have upgraded depth and two positions for an injured player and a player that didn't fit. I expect they would be able to go deeper in the playoffs with Favors and Bledsoe being 'win now' moves. A one legged Jabari possibly post all star break is still a mystery. A bonus second round pick might be required to give them something else for the deal, but it's essentially an expiring contract and guaranteed help now in exchange for a player they seem to have moved on from.

The Bucks are giving up the rights to Jabari Parker for an expiring contract and a 2nd round pick....

Do you expect that they are going to resign Jabari? And how much does he fetch them in a trade? What trade value does a constantly injured player who you don't expect to resign have? If you expect the Bucks to just sit on Jabari all this year (getting a whopping 20 games out of him and perhaps only 10 of them as serviceable games) in order to extend him for next year and NOT get any better because they can't trade their current players for much and they are pretty much set for 2 more years...

I figure they are more motivated to please Giannis than that. If anything else, I would say that they would definitely let Jabari go if someone took on John Henson or Teletovic's contract.

If the Bucks decide to sit on what they have for two years and potentially miss the playoffs in one or two of those years... and then proceed to keep Giannis... I think you are crazy. Dumping Jabari lets them partner Giannis earlier. That only happens if they get cap relief.

Would ya'll give up Exum for an expiring contract and a draft pick? Flip the script. Would you keep Exum and pay him $12,000+ how about $14,000 per year? I would trade him for an expiring contract and a pick. Same situation except Jabari played well in the 152 games he actually has played in his career. But TWO ACLs? He has played 152/338 games to date. Exum has played in 148/338 games to date. Does the Bledsoe trade signal a different direction? I think it easily could. What is it worth to the Bucks to keep Giannis? I think Jabari becomes the bait at the least to get cap relief and/or to be more competitive sooner.

They sound like they plan on retaining him from all reports and value him 2nd highest on the team just behind Giannis. If they do trade him they can get more than an expiring and a crap pick. They could at least get a higher pick.

But sure, If Bucks are willing to do that trade I agree it is worth the risk and Jazz should go for it.

Our trade chips are sad lol.

Last year, or even this past offseason would have been the time to make a move. I think the Jazz have been counting on guys getting healthy and raising their value for too long, and then losing Hayward took an already poor situation and crapped on top of it.

While it doesn’t feel that way at the moment. . . having Michell, Gobert, Jingles, Hood and Rubio is a solid base to start from. Need to find a PF that fits better with Gobert and a SF that can effectively push Jingles to the bench/glue role that he crushed previously.

Also from a SI.com article:

"It’s worth noting that taking on salary could impact the Bucks’ decision process with Jabari Parker, who continues to rehab his knee and will be a restricted free agent this summer. Before the deal Milwaukee was right beneath the luxury tax line (about $1 million under), and by adding Bledsoe’s deal to the books for next season, they’re set to approach it again. Giving Parker what he’ll want would likely take them over it, and with that, it’s conceivable the Bucks could deal another midsize contract before the summer."

Is it silly to suggest that trading for Bledsoe marks a shift in strategy for the Bucks? They get 15 games for Parker now and who knows for next season. If I were them, I would try to dump Henson's funny money contract by dealing Parker only to give cap relief and help me surround Giannis. But what's an injury and a bad contract worth? I am not the only one thinking Jabari is affected by the trade for Bledsoe. If they Jazz want a shot at an all star, I think they can make it happen.

I don't see how the Jazz can get Jabari by trade. I do think he might be available for the right price even if the Bucks are saying he is untouchable right now. But, the Jazz just don't have the ammo to get a guy like that. All that they can offer is something like Favors/Hood/Exum/Draft picks. Maybe two of the three players, and multiple firsts. But even there I don't think Exum (Bledsoe,Brogdon) or Hood (Giannis/Middleton) are really appealing to the Bucks. Favors probably isn't either as he's just a run of the mill decent starter right now. He probable comes off the bench and plays backup 5 for them.

It would take the Jazz playing much better, and some wizardry by DL to get a deal done. Maybe they can throw a max at Jabari and hope that the Bucks balk. That's probably the best chance, but obviously it is risky because of the injury concerns.

If DL somehow made that trade happen I would personally chisel a statue of him myself.

I doubt Favors and a 2nd would even get us Randle.
