Mitchell killed it in the first half last night. Then he had some mistakes and it killed his rhythm in the 2nd half. Still finished with 19 points on 47% shooting and 50% from 3.
His season averages are now:
14.9 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 apg, 1.6spg on 38.8 FG%, 35.6 3pt% and 66.7 FG%.
His points and FG and 3 pt % are all trending up.
Last 5 games. . .
Donovan Mitchell - 17.8 points per game - 3.2 rebounds per game - 2.4 assists per game - 1.6 steals per game - 2.2/7.4 (.297) 3 pt. - 1.2/1.8 (.667) FTA
Rodney Hood - 20.1 points per game - 3 rebounds per game - 1.6 assists per game - 3.4/8.4 (.405) 3 pt - 4.8/5.2 (.923) FTA
Hood has 9 games this year at 15+ points (4 games with 20+), while Mitchell has 8 games with 15+ points (5 games 20+). Despite some truly poor shooting by both at times, they’re clearly taking on the bulk of the scoring responsibilities this year. Regardless of wins/losses, that has to bode well for the team moving forward.
I still think that the best move (for now) is to play Favors, Bradley, Jingles, Hood and Mitchell to start games until Gobert gets back healthy or Favors is traded. Then give Udoh, JJ (once healthy), Sefalosha, Burks and Rubio minutes off the bench. Hope the young guys grow into their roles, while the guys who are expendable increase their trade value and can bring back assets for the future.
