What's new

Alec Burks: Redemption

The play where he missed a 3, got a steal, then went up and passed the ball the D-Favs shows his maturity. In the past he would have "houdini'd" that and possibly made it, but he instead gave it to the open man.

Burks said it himself..Having a kid changed him and helped him grow mentally and mature.
Now that he's lost that pregnancy weight, he's more athletic.

Seriously, I agree he's a different player. And not trying to be "Houdini" may put him at less risk of injury. It definitely helps defensively. I was tired of seeing the other team get an early 5-on-4 advantage after Burks would drive, put up an awkward shot and fall down beyond the baseline.

As for trading him, I was just hoping DL could dump his extra year for a 2nd, but feared it might cost a 1st (if Utah needed to clear cap room). Now I'm thinking Utah needs to keep him until they see what happens with Hood and Exum.

Player development wows me alot. All the jazz players under snyder have improved alot.

Great so see Burks playing so well. He always had the pieces, now it looks like he really is putting it together. There are those players who, for various reasons, just take a while. Mitchell, Burks, and Favors are leading a team playing its best basketball of the season. Gobert and hood injured--are two best players before the season started, and we're on a five game win streak. Burks has really stepped up and if this is the player he is now we are going to be better than anyone counted on. Same with Favs. These guys have been empowered by opportunity. And being healthy for the first time in what feels like ten years.

Dude has been so unlucky with injuries, what a waste of two years. I'm very happy with his play so far on both ends, he seems to buying into the system. There's a chance he might be our starting SG next year if continues to play this well consistently.

Also another blessing off not signing GH is to be able to keep both Burks and Favors. These two solid if not very good players with close to zero value due to injuries were given chances and both responded so far. Otherwise they'd have had to be cleared off the books for pennies.

I don't think so. If it was just getting healthy he would have went back to the player he was before. He's a better player now than before his injuries. I hope he keeps it up.

He's a better player now than he was two weeks ago. I think he had an epiphany (or a talk with his agent) on that eastern trip and decided to take the coaches' advice to heart.

People forget because it's all about what have you done for me lately but Burks had plenty of games like last night and Thursday in 2013-14 when he consistently averaged 13-15 pts every month. This is the older, more mature, less reckless Burks which helps; but the talent was always there.

This is exactly why I stayed on Burks ship for a while. Before Paul Pierce struck I think he was 3rd or something in bench scoring? Getting to the line and shooting efficiently. If he can spot up a few times a game, strategically push the ball, drive and kick, he's a real positive player.

Back then he didn't defend or pass the way he has been the last few games. He may have shot like this back then but over all, these games have been different in that they are being done within the system. I saw the athleticism back then, but I also saw a reckless ball hog that didn't defend at all.

That was the Tyrone Corbin era when no one defended and The Jazz had no offense. Burks has barely played under QS and when he has he hasn't been 100%.

We'll just have to see. There's really no evidence beyond these last two games he's a different player. He's still deep into the negatives in RPM, near the worst shooting guards in the league.
If he had Mitchell's confidence, Burks would be a better player. If Burks misses even one three, he starts doing dumb things like passing future open shots up, driving into a congested lane, or taking a 21" two pointer.

Alec Dufresne. Who crawled through a river of ****** injuries and came out clean on the other side.

Like I always say, player development is the concept of pressure and time. That's all it takes really, pressure, and time. That, and a big god-damned poster.
Let's just hope that Dante Dufresne can do the same.

His last 5 games have all been good.

Burks is a great guy, he's got a great attitude and now with his renewed health , he can bring some seasoned contribution to the Jazz
