And couldn't come to an agreement, which means there was a significant difference in valuation. I like Hood, but he's injured way too much (frail build?) and I think he and his agent are thinking Porter money - or close to it.

I'd trade Rodney and go with Burks as the starting SG. Or Jazz go for a big SF and slide Ingles to SG.

I got the impression it was closer to 17-20M per year and that the Jazz wanted to see him healthy rather than go that amount. Didn't get the impression they were going to sign him at all unless we got a discount. His cap hold is quite a bit lower than what he will get so he could provide flexibility if we got off of Burks or Rubio's deal. The benefit is somewhat offset by Exum's 15M cap hold, but they could agree to a deal with him for 7ish and then by ordering things the right way create some wiggle room.

No one is giving Hood the OP jr. contract. If Philly or Dallas strike out I could see a 4/90ish offer. I could also see there being a really limited market and the Jazz getting him for 4/60, which is a good deal or a super bargain if he stays healthy.

I just think we could find another volume three point shooter if needed... I don't think he has another "jump" like some do... maybe a "hop" but there are too many ifs to gamble.

Archie - let me explain. Every team has their own picks. If they have an incoming pick, that means they have added one via trade from the past that impacts an upcoming year. If they have an outgoing pick, that means they have sent out a pick in a future draft via a trade that happened in the past. So for our Jazz for example, we have 2 incoming picks (2nd rounders in 2021 and 2022) but zero outgoing picks (which means we don't owe anyone a pick). But by reading the chart correctly and knowing our Jazz, we have all of our picks going forward.

Honestly still think Hood could reach Beal's level. Beal has played well this year, but the only thing that separates him from Hood is getting to the FT line. Hood has a smarter shot selection and is a better shooter though.

It's not hard to read. They have no incoming picks (from other teams) and none of their 1st round picks are outgoing to any teams. That means they have all their first round picks.

Thank you for explaining this. I thought none incoming meant they traded their picks for this year in 2018.

A very good, undersized, injury-prone, offensive player that doesn't bring much else to the table versus an all-world defensive player that can anchor a championship defense and when he has space is one of the most efficient scorers in the game? I didn't even mention that Gobert is not just some player, he is a JAZZ player. He wants to be here. And until Mitchell exploded into the scene, he was indisputably and singularly the heart and soul of this team.

I think it's wild anyone wants to trade Rodney. Only way I would consider it if the Jazz are going super risky and trying to get a guy like Jabari Parker. A pick in the 10-20 range likely isnt worth it.

The pick by itself has a low likelihood of turning into a player better than Rod, but has a chance to end up being a big asset if you hit a home run. It's the pick plus the cap space that makes it a viable option.

Assume Hood has a similar rest of his season... plays well sometimes, misses 25-30% of the games... and then gets a 4/80 offer. I mean I think you match it, but it isn't an "asset" unless he stays healthy. If he doesn't stay healthy would you rather have that contract or Allen Crabbe's or even Wayne Ellington on a 2/10 or Will Barton on a 4/40...

If you can't get a first for him - which I'm not sure we can - then it is what it is and you hope to get him on a team friendly deal.

We need to find that third elite player and I think Hood is replaceable if you take the money you were going to give him and place it elsewhere.

Wiz get Burks
Bucks get Oubre and Favors
Jazz get Jabari Parker, Mahinmi, Jason Terry (expiring), Sean Kilpatrick (expiring throw in) and Washington's 2018 1st

Why for Wiz - they get under the luxury tax and shed Mahinmi's massive contract (2 years and $30+ left after this season). Burks should be able to replace most of Oubre's production.

Why for Bucks - They get the center they need. Oubre represents a safer and more affordable option than Parker.

Why for us - taking on Mahinmi sucks, but we get Parker and a first rounder for guys we thought were would not get us much not long ago. Parker becomes our PF of the future and we still have a chance to keep Hood and Exum. We have a better chance of getting a star through this trade (Parker or the pick) than we do in free agency.

1) Beal isn't undersized. He's a 6'5" SG.
2) Gobert has missed the same ammount of games over the past 3 seasons as Beal. This does not include the next month he'll miss.
3) Gobert is an all world center. I don't think today's game requires one for an NBA championship though.
4) Yes, Rudy is a Jazz player. That's the whole idea he was mentioned.

Beal creates more for others too...

I just don't think Rodney's game will allow him to substantially increase his FT rate.

Beal is also younger than Hood, but I understand the comp. It all really boils down to health... Beal has his own health issues.

Amen, you would be hoping to get someone as good as Hood with that pick. Obviously, they would be cheaper, but they would also likely be a downgrade from Hood.
