What's new

The optimal lineup is so clear

Jazz are so much better when injuries have forced them to space the floor. I've been so tired of watching Gobert/Favors trip over each other inside. Or reducing Rudy to a spectator on offense. I realize that's been temporarily resolved (no credit to Quin).

And gawd, for all his hype, Rubio is a truly horrible passer at times. He throws the ball at the feet of the bigs inside, or lofts cross court passes that are intercepted and go the other way for fast break buckets by the opposing team.

Quin, when Rudy and Donovan return PLEASE recognize your attempt at appeasing veterans is foolish and truly Corbin-like. This should be the starting lineup:

PG - Mitchell
SG - Hood
SF - Ingles
PF - Jerebko
C - Gobert

I'm simply astounded at how well Jerebko plays when he's given minutes. And why he's then benched for games on end. Favs/Gobert should NEVER see the floor together. And even Johnson at SF or Burks at SG would be ok. I'm not saying this is the line-up of the future. I still believe Utah should upgrade at starting PF and perhaps even SF next year (Ingles can back up 1-3).

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd have to believe the Jazz are showcasing players for possible trades. But no, I believe the Jazz are just loyal. They traded for Rubio, so DL/Quin are giving him 2 years to "make it work." And Favs has been a good soldier. Have to give him ~30 minutes in his contract year.

jonas gives us the ability to space the floor. he's a huge factor for the amazing spacing...

but hes quite bad on defense but we need the offense.

Jerebko as a starter... 9.5 pts 5 rebs 1.5 assists on 54/47/100 shooting. In 21 minutes a night.

He's 10th in RPM for PFs. His shooting percentages will come down, but he's been great with that group. He's an adequate defender.

A lot of that was during the win streak when we played awful defenses, but still...

A healthy Rudy can nullify quiet a bid of that. I think it is a net positive.

He's not a bad defender... He's better than JJ at this point. He's like Rodney. Not dynamic but generally gives effort and is in the right spot.

Isn't that why we have Gobert?
Jerebko also has some inside ability with his hook shoot. Not saying he's the future, but he merits some burn. Start him to space the floor; you can always make him the first player out at around the 6 min. mark and bring in Favors.

Quin's system is 1 in, 4 out. With his lineups, he's been playing 2/2/1: Favs and Gobert are both inside players and Rubio is usually just a dribbler. I guess you play Ricky so the wings don't get tired bouncing the ball.

Jazz currently lead the league in most wide open shots and we are #11 in 3 points attempted and #3 in 3 points %.

We are currently spacing the floor great right now, arguably the best in the NBA.

What our team needs to be is keeping playing offense like we are and keep playing home defense like we are and step up our road defense. If we played defense on the road like we do at home we would be a top 5 team in the NBA with our current offense.

Ummm, no. Have you watched when the Jazz play Rubio, Favors and Gobert together? Jazz may be attempting a lot of 3's...sometimes they aren't always good shots. And the interior game needs to be a LOT better.
There's a reason the Jazz have a losing record and it's not all about injuries.

Nope those are facts not opinions. We attempt top 3 most threes in the NBA, we make the top 3 most threes in the NBA, we have the top 3 best % on 3 point shots and we do so with the most space of any team in the NBA. Jazz have the most wide open shots in the NBA currently and have all season. We werent making them early but now we are.

There is a reason Jazz have a losing record. We play poor defense on the road.

We play the same offense on the road or home. But we play the best defense in the NBA at home and the worst defense in the NBA on the road.

There is a reason we are really good at home and really poor on the road. That is the reason.

Hood accepted his role off the bench in a contract year without any complaints. I would hope Rubio would be able to do the same without checking out completely.

I think benching him kind of hurts his trade value... and I think we may look to move him. I would be looking at least.

Assuming Gobert gets back and healthy I assume we will trade Favors but I would be shocked if we trade Hood. There is no way we get back any where close to that type of player in a trade. We might get a crap shoot pick mid draft for him that we would be very lucky if it turned into an elite three point shooting SG like Hood.

I think our hands are full this summer retaining Hood and Exum but I think worst-case-scenario Jerebko works as a good stop gap PF into next year. Ideally I’d like to go all in on Love next summer if LeBron leaves but I don’t know that we have the salary or the assets to get him at that point. We’d be contenders simply landing Love.

Exum / Beverley (for kicks and flagrants)
Mitchell / Ingles
Hood / Thabo
Love / Jerebko
Gobert / Udoh

Jazz are pretty solid at setting up the outside shot.

I think that stat is quite inflated because the other team doesn't guard rubio at all. lmao

He does get a lot of open shots but so does the rest of our players. Rubio is attempting less wide open shots than he was earlier in the year. I thought maybe it was teams sagging off of some of our players early in the year. But now it is clearly that Snyders offense and system create a lot of wide open shots for all of our players.

Even if you took Rubio's stats (wide open shots) off the team we would still be a top 10 team in wide open shots. If you gave those minutes to another player we would likely be #1 or close again.

I don't think we are top 3 in 3PA

Actually you are right. I had it organized wrong. We are tied for #11 right now and we are #3 at 3 point pg% and hare #1 in most wide open shots.

We are averaging 30 3s a game and making them at a .388 rate.

We also attempt the 5th least tightly contested shots in the NBA.

I think there is 0% chance we are giving Favs minutes because he is in a contract year or Rubio because we traded for him. Not how it works in the NBA. Showcasing for a trade is possible but I actually doubt that.
