What's new

George Hill

Regarding Hill, he made the most untradeable contract list for Sacramento. They spent $17 million per year on a player who is having his worst statistical outing of his career. If you don't think last year was about making money for him then you missed something. He saw the green and he is loving it. He said in a feed recently, 'if they trade me then I will look the management in the eye, say thank you, and move on'. In short, 'Thanks, morons, for paying me what no one else would pay me... good riddance'.

PASS. And I don't mean like a Rubio no looker to the fans on the 3rd row. I mean like a stank, explosive, hot and soft Paaaaawoooomp! Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt. No thanks and good riddance. My respect for him was very high coming in. Actions speak louder than words here folks. Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt.
Jesus some of you are dramatic.

I would like this but he's honestly not coming back. If we traded for him, we essentially gave away a pick for Rubio and then we had to trade more crap for Hill when we could have had him for free (meaning no picks/vets/trades/whatever). That's a huge double negative for a small market team.
The Jazz wouldn't be trading cap as they won't be under it in the offseason and wouldn't be able to use more than the MLE.

Hill's deal becomes $1 million guaranteed in '19-'20, so basically unguarateed and even better than a 2019 expiring (because you could theoretically trade him to a team looking to shed salary before the option date, essentially acting as a nearly $20 million trade exception).

In short, Hill's deal would take practically no flexibility away from the Jazz and would actually add a bunch of it. On top of that, he's ever played on a winning team and can shoot a basketball (crazy).

I mean, I liked Hill. He just got his toe injured too many times last year sadly. I mean, Everyone knows Favors is getting traded. I've heard and read that most people are expecting it from espn/podcasts/whatever. I just don't see the kings wanting Rubio

Three team deal. Or, ****, if they just wanna save the ~$5 million in pure cost.

Or JJ. I think there are a lot of ways to take him off their hands.

Sunk cost. The only thing the Jazz FO can worry about is value we get versus value we have to give up. What happened to get Rubio is done.

Is Hill injured again? Or is Sacramento sitting him on purpose? It didn't look like he played last night against the spurs.

George Hill is too old to fit the current pivot to Gobert. It’s much better to use money and assets to get younger guys who actually fit the timeline.

That’s why I’m okay with the idea of keeping Favors and Hood (depending on the cost) or trading for Mirotic or Fournier (if he becomes available.) All of those guys have a chance to start on this team heading into Rudy’s prime years. I think it would be a mistake to go too old or too young in their priorities.

Okay. Who?

Additionally, I don't think there is a soul on earth that sees George Hill as a core piece with most not thinking he gets re-signed.

Then what’s the point?

The Jazz need a direction. Adding a guy like George Hill fits when your team is built around Gordon Hayward - not Rudy or Donovan.

Derrick Favors (26), Rodney Hood (25), Nikola Mirotic (26) Evan Fournier (25), Kent Bazemore (28) and even Ricky Rubio (27 - who I hope actually gets moved in a deal) all make more sense.

Outside of value contracts like Thabo, Jerebko and Udoh - structured to provide maximum team flexibility, they shouldn’t look at any players over 30 at this point.

The direction is being a good team in order to have a good pitch to free agents in 2019 (and/or 2020).

George Hill would make this team significantly better in that pursuit and his contract is perfect in that context.

Agree. Not everything has to line up perfect. Rubio won’t be here in two years... Hill likely wouldn’t either... Hill for two years is better than Rubio and the cost difference is fine considering how much better he fits.

And as I mentioned earlier, Hill's contract particulars actually make it more valuable on the trade market near the reup deadline which could act as a massive trade exception.

DL offered him a boat load of money and a huge 4 year extension (rare for a 31 year old player). He flipped us the middle finger. DL may talk about him kindly, but he would never in a million years bring him back. No way in hell.

Again, some of you are ****ing drama queens.

It is worth noting that the jazz went and got Ricky Rubio before they could even have a real talk about re-signing George Hill. That's what we should be pissed off about.

Why do you think we went after Rubio?

Real talk? They spent the entire year talking to him about re-signing.

And we don't know where they were at with talks. I know it wasn't George Hill pulling some **** with a cape draped over his mouth and cackling.

Having a different views on terms of another contract doesn't constitute a ''middle finger" to the Jazz.

What we know:
-George Hill and Rudy locked horns over Rudy pulling some questionable **** in the media.
-George Hill wanted what he thought he could get.
-George Hill got injured in a ****** way and who struggled with it in a way that is consistent with the nature of the injury.

In other words, he's a total monster.
