So... whats everyone thinking? Is this our opportunity to unload Rubio?

Kemba is due $12Mil next year.

Rubio + 1st for Kemba?

Kemba
DM
Ingles
Mirotic
Gobert

I dont think its a home run move but if we arent tanking and trying to make playoffs we might as well compete...

If not Utah, what is a likely landing spot for KW?

Regarding Kemba, I like him as a player but I don't think he would be a good fit next to DM. He needs the ball in his hands a lot and we will need someone who can play off the ball. I think it's pretty clear we want the offense running through DM.

Also, he is quite small and I doubt having a 6'1, 6'2 duo in the backcourt could work defensively. Is he better than Rubio? Absolutely, but I don't think is a great fit.

Also, it's been reported they want to unload some of their bad contracts with him (Batum, yikes)

The Hornets have multiple unmovable contracts. So nobody is getting Kemba unless they take atleast one of the craptastic deals back as well.

Howard 1 yr 23 million
Batum 3 yrs 25 million
Marvin Williams 2 yrs 15 million
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 2 yrs 13 million
Cody Zeller 3 yrs 14 million

The only one that interests me is Zeller, but the Jazz have Gobert, so no. Shouldn't pay 14 million per for a back-up center.

I agree with all this. I dont think hes a good fit next to DM either (just had to get that meme in).

Just to clarify your post for others. Those salaries are their annual salaries, so Batum is owed about 100M (including this year's salary )

I don’t want anything... literally anything... off the Charlotte roster. I wonder if they’d send a first rounder with some second rounders to take someone like Dwight. Probably not because he only has a year left.

Yikes they’re at the luxury tax threshold this year and next year.

The thing is Charlotte doesn't have draft picks they can afford to throw in. So maybe Dennis O'Lindsey decides he is going to lose an asset in Joe Johnson and Derrick favors if he doesnt trade them, so he decides to extend the asset and address a need by trading Favors for Marvin Williams. It would be crazy to take on a lesser player for more money and more years unless there was another assett to sweeten the deal.

No, Charlotte is in big trouble and the only real way to fix it is let it ride for another season of sucking.

My early guess would be..

NY
Spurs
Wolves
Cavs

Digging through their roster to identify trades really shows what a terrible job the Hornets FO has done.

I would be interested if I was the jazz but I would worry it would slow DMs progress but knowing him it would just make him 20% better over night.

The contracts are bad but Batum and Marvin Williams are okay players. If it was just bad salary and Kemba for Rubio and expirings I think there is enough value there I would bite... might route Kemba to a third team or trade him separately in the offseason.

I’ll bet the Knicks make a move... it’s the best fit imo.

Rubio and JJ for Dwight Howard and a protected pick. Parlay that to Chicago and Dwight can be our super-Gobert backup and insurance and a possible (maybe) trade piece next season. They shed $10M next year.

ETA: oh, and give them Tomic for good measure.

They won’t be giving out any picks if they are rebuilding.

They are not moving off Dwight. 1-they like him and 2- his contract only lasts through next season.

This is Jordan we’re talking about. Common sense would have told you they wouldn’t assemble the roster they have with the contracts they have but sometimes the professionals are a lot worse than the spectators.

How has Batum been doing lately?
