I could see the Jazz sliding into this one with Favors to NOP and Mirotic heading here. New Orleans gets an actual expiring, Niko gets a home he wants.

That trade would make way too much sense.

True. If he got waived this year he probably gets paid less. There is significantly more money available in 2019 UFA I believe.

I think they want shooting, but if they just want another good player then sure. We could add in a Jerebko for Ajinca to help facilitate a little.

There's no way for a second I would think New Orleans would give up a 1st for a couple months of Mirotic or Favors and to get of Asik. Asik could be stretched pretty easily.

Cap goes up and many more expiring contracts... there are almost none this year.

Before the season started almost no one thought they would pick up his option... then he balled out for a month. He wants that money and to hit FA when more teams have space.

The thing is that the player has to assume the team will play this perfectly. As in - if he deserves his salary or more - they will pick the option, if he doesn't they will decline. Thus, Mirotic only has downside to NOP having the option to pick up his second year. Thus, he wants the year guaranteed.

New Orleans probably wants the flexibility with Mirotic, but if he isnt willing to be flexible, then yeah, maybe.

I would think they'd try to sneak Hill into the deal if possible because Asik's guaranteed money of 15M can be stretched over 5 years.

My first instinct is to agree, but I think they're kind of in a similar place the Jazz were last summer, but subbing out Hayward for AD. They probably feel like they really have to make the playoffs this year if they are going to keep him interested in staying around.

So riddle me this, why isn't NO just having Chicago pick up his option and invalidate his say-so in the deal?
