Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

This is an article from two years ago:

The Bucks are still looking to find a taker for Greg Monroe and it sounds like they’ve spoken to the Pelicans about him this offseason. “I think [the Bucks] got closer than maybe has been reported with New Orleans during either the draft or free agency,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe said during today’s episode of The Lowe Post podcast (54:25 mark for the relevant portion). “Monroe’s a New Orleans native,” ESPN’s Marc Stein added. “I think that’s where he wants to end up.” Neither Lowe nor Stein suggested that a deal between the Pelicans and Bucks is currently in the works, but Stein expects the big man to eventually be moved, and those two clubs also discussed Monroe prior to this year’s trade deadline.

I'm telling you, Joe Johnson and a 2nd for Asik and a 1st is incredible business for us. Then NOLA signs Monroe. Excellent business for them too.

How desperate is NO? I mean if we came with the Hood, Favs, JJ for Hill Asik their 2018 unprotected, pick swap in 2019, and unprotected in 2020 they still say no I'm sure, but we should try to do our Brooklyn/Boston deal and swing for the damned fences.

I don't think teams are dumb enough to do that, but when I hear about desperate GMs my eyes get big.

I'd do that, but they would have to value JJ to do that and I'm not sure teams still do. If they haven't watched the film maybe.

The Pelicans just offered Asik, Ajinca and their 2018 pick for one year of Mirotic. The most important part of that trade was NOLA dumping Asik and Ajinca. Sure, Mirotic would help this year but he wasn't that important.

I think NOLA still has use for Hill and his contract is more than I would want to take on.

I might go Asik, Ajinca and Pelicans 2018 top 10 protected 1st for Joe Johnson and Thabo (who the Pelicans will not re-sign and we can re-sign in the summer). I would rather not take Asik AND Ajinca....

We know that isnt the case as all of the reports say otherwise.
Reports may say otherwise but could you really value something that you're only willing to give up a second rounder for? So, yes, they value him, but not that much. It wouldn't be my first offer, but I'd trade Hood for him if we're hesitant about a top 15 protected pick.

So NO is 600k from the tax... signing Monroe would put them over the tax line no? They would need to offload a little current year salary in a deal. Doesn't make sense to jump into the tax... maybe they pay someone to take clark or Allen.

I think we have a different deal lined up for Hood. I think we'd send a second with Favs to get Niko. I think the teams are all re-grouping.

DL presents his best offer and waits... did it with DM and Denver called back... hopefully this works out too.

I'd take Allen with a second rounder using Thabo exception. We'd need to buy out JJ.

Tell me if I understand this correctly. Niko has a no trade clause. He seems to want to play in Utah, correct? Bulls want a first in any deal involving Niko, Niko can just turn down any good offer, and I'm sure he'd like to stick it to the bulls as I'm sure the relationship is strained, so he needs to go. In my mind the jazz should be able to wait out the bulls and trade Favors straight up, no need to involve other teams as far as I see it.

Once the Monroe sweepstakes ends I think NO makes their deal. If they got Monroe they might think they can keep him there on the cheap, so it'd be a long term play.

If they did that deal I think a JJ might make sense... just don't show them the numbers or the tape. Talk about his late game experience and vet leadership.
