So, bottom line, all the other deals out there suck.
Are people really that low on Gordon? This is brutal. This is the equivalent of... paying Hood and a first for the privilege to pay Aaron Gordon 40+M per year(17 for Biyombo's albatross and 25+ for Gordon)... I don't know about this one...
It ain’t me making you sad. You’re making me sad
It's not being low on him... it just leaves you pretty much no flexibility whatsoever until 2020. You will have to work with the exceptions to fill out your roster and I haven't even calculated what it means for our luxury tax. It's possible it sends us into the lux tax for next year and possibly the year after. Are people really that low on Gordon?
What else are the Jazz going to do with that cap-space? Sign no one of note in 2018 before ponying up a max to a guy in 2019 whom I'm sure most of the board will also be apprehensive about?
Like I said, if you did the deal w/ Burks in there and you paid Gordon the full max, it's around 112 million for 9 players (assuming Exum at 10 million a year and you waive the trio of non-guaranteeds we signed last yer). I think the LT is around 122 for next year. So sign 6 more players for 10 million. The Jazz would probably be willing to go a bit over, because they would dip back down below he LT the following year when Rubio expired and wouldn't be in danger of being in the LT the year after that because Biyombo would expire. It's not being low on him... it just leaves you pretty much no flexibility whatsoever until 2020. I'm warming up to it... if we can keep Exum and be under the tax it might worth exploring.Like I said, if you did the deal w/ Burks in there and you paid Gordon the full max, it's around 112 million for 9 players (assuming Exum at 10 million a year and you waive the trio of non-guaranteeds we signed last yer). I think flexibility becomes overrated when you have your big 3 in place and have role players (Exum/Ingles/O'Neale) locked into long-term deals plus Rubio would expire in a year.
Plus the Jazz have been really good at talent mining Europe. Let's keep doing that. I think the Jazz are way ahead of the NBA in that regard. It makes being cash strapped way less of an issue if you are consistently finding cheap NBA ready talent in Europe.
