Lol, that's a terrible comparison. So was your comparison to Haywood. You're usually a pretty solid poster, but you're way off on this IMO. Keeping Hood wasn't anymore worth the trouble than keeping Kanter. Utah also got good value for Hood, and nothing close to any deal where someone got fleeced.

Never once said the Jazz got fleeced, I'm not comparing the trades, I'm comparing that thought process. I think it was a different thought process the Jazz had than the Cavs.

Relationships aren't irreparable. Getting a 600% pay increase could have a funny way of working it out.

Again, I'm not arguing against the trade. I'm not arguing against what they received. I'm saying that there is risk Hood gets a team-friendly payday.

Crowder being locked in on a cheap deal isn't that much of an upgrade to The Big Hood Question (fans think he's going to land way more than he actually will, but whatever, fans gonna fan), but it adds long term salary to a team that desperately needs to find a way to land a star and not settle for a revolving door of Thabo's and Hood's and Crowder's.

This trade is tough, but does make sense. It'll hurt if Rodney only gets a reasonable deal this offseason--but the bet the FO is making is that he is going to get a big offer that you don't want to be stuck matching. And I agree. You do not want to play rodney big money. He just isn't dependable enough, and he and Mitch don't play well together. Plus, Mitch took his spot, and that does seem to have effected his desire to play here.

We bought Crowder on the lowest possible point. And if he improves--god willing, if he returns to his Boston form--then we got a huge huge steal. If he plays like Boston Crowder, that is one of the best contracts in the league. Crowder could be an incredibly valuable contract, whereas Hood is likely to become a painful one. I see the reasoning.

This may arguably be their best chance at landing a star in 2019. Nothing to do with willingness to spend money.

This needs to be quoted many times, because some people still don't have a very good grasp on the situation.

Even though the jazz haven't said as much, it really sounds like Hood wanted out and asked for a trade. Trading him for Crowder is much better than having him take the QO just to become a UFA in one year.

If Rodney did want out, let's give him credit for not laying a Hayturd on us.

was he really toxic? He was obviously and openly unhappy with his role here but he never seemed toxic. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some frustration with him not playing--especially most recently, when it was said he was deciding not to play. Still, Hood sits. Doesn't mean he was toxic. Isiah in Cleveland--that's toxic. We'll see if anything comes out but, just seems like two parties who needed to move on.

The way Hood played is not indicative of how he will play for his career. He is in his 4th season on his rookie deal. Remember what Hayward did in year 5 and on?

It still can suck if Hood gets a value-deal.

Hood will be 26 when he enters his fifth season. Hayward was 24 and 5 months when he entered his fifth season. So there's that.

One of the best attributes of Mitchell's is his humble demeanor and relationship with teammates. If you want to destroy that, then involve him in trades. Give him the power to have a say in who stays and who goes, and then you can watch team chemistry go all to hell.

Not exactly what’s I’m saying. Im simply saying more give a heads up or an explanation as to why you may be doing something if you’re going to do it before it happens. Not ask for permission but to keep them involved on why you’re doing something before you do it. I get that’s hard to do, but with something like Blake Griffin who finds out on twitter he’s been traded I don’t like. I think filling your franchise players in on what you may be going to do before it happens would make them feel more respected.


Also as for Rodney wanting out, as I said yesterday I wasn’t for moving Hood really until I read through his sisters twitter feed yesterday. There were obivous frustrations with Rodney’s roll, the fact Joe Ingles got paid and Rodney didn’t, along with several tweets that seemed to point to the fact it was time for both sides to part ways, and this is his sister who lives here with him. Even if he was friends with Donovan I’m sure he wasn’t completely thrilled with how the Jazz and fans shifted so quickly to Donovan. You don’t want a guy unhappy with his roll and being here especially around the young guy you’re trying to build things around who is part of the reason his roll changed so much. This was the best thing for both sides before they may have gotten ugly at some point down the road.

Even so, that's like saying we aren't upset Hayward left cause he broke his ankle. Different situations can bring different results. I don't mind the trade, I'm just saying it weighs on what Hood gets in the offseason, and Jazz are banking that it would be out of their ballpark for their valuation and got what should be a value deal and a great fit in return.

Agreed. This was my point. Hood getting a cheap contract doesn’t necessarily mean this trade sucked.
Many factors effect how this trade will look not just hoods contract size. Hood could get signed to a cheap contract cause he sucks in Cleveland and could then get even worse going forward. He could get a cheap contract and then be perpetually injured.
Crowder could improve vastly.

And vice versa. I was simply saying that there are scenarios where hood gets a cheap deal this summer and we still are happy with the way things worked out.
