Hood traded to Cleveland for Crowder; Johnson to Sacramento

I’m geniunely concerned that Jae will have a bad attitude and be salty. Hopefully not but he’s got a prickly personality.

I like the idea of what Jae could do for us but I have doubts. I think Quin and DL are great and will get the best out of him.

Jae has been prickly even in his Boston days. I can't imagine what happens if Quin makes him sit on the bench for Utah.

It depends on how those shots are generated. For some 55% efficiency is meh(Crowder) because he does nothing but easy shots(catch and shoot, cuts, etc). Hood was relied to create offense and take the toughest shots for this team. Huge % of his shots were unassisted, bail us out shots. Just a comparison - Crowder gets 83% of his 2p shots assisted(most of those are gimmies), and 95% of his 3p shots assisted). Can you guess what the numbers are for Hood? 32% and 70%!!!! I don't know if people realize how hard that is. This is in the Harden realm! This is how much we relied on Hood to create offense for us and the efficiency with which he did this year has been great! Not good, not average! GREAT! If you gave Crowder those shots his TS% would probably be in the low 40s. Now that we've trade Hood we actually need to get someone to create offense for the second unit... like... u know... someone like Hood?

Hood's offense is a double-edged sword though (same with Johnson). It's great, but it also seems like their teammates defer to them too much at times. Sometimes Hood would find the happy medium, sometimes he wouldn't.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how 2nd units fair now. The offense will be worse because of no Hood, but the absence of Johnson should help the defense a lot more. Hood being gone also opens up the ball to be in Exum's hands a lot more in the 2nd units. The ball movement should be a bit better, but we will also probably be more turnover prone.

Some good points here. Like with any trades there will be give and take with what we gained and what we lost in the trade.

15-17M is low-balled? I tend to disagree. Huge contracts or not the last couple years, the market is correcting itself and taking on that contract for a 6th man with a cap that barely increases the next few years would be potentially crippling for any sort of flexibility and/or ability to truly upgrade our starting lineup.

I don't look at it through that lense. Other FAs got overpaid massively, which means few teams have cap space and incentive to use it. The Jazz should have uses that to their advantage and negotiated hard with Hood. His Qualifying offer is at 3.5M, there's no way he wants to lose all the money. Worst case you sign him to a team friendly contract and move him that same december for future assets, or whatever). For example I do not believe for 1 second, that the Clippers didn't do that Lou Williams extension if they didn't think his contract would be valuable in trade scenarios. If there's one contender next year who needs a PG without making their luxury tax bill dry out the owner's swiss bank accounts, this team will be willing to sacrifice the future for now. Rodney Hood is not Allen Crabbe(who makes 18.75 annually), Hood can dribble, pass, shoot and the one thing he can't do is score close to the basket. I predict that Hood will go to the basket more often when playing in a more dominant offense next to James. He can attack a scrambled defense, his mid range shooting is good enough to balance his scoring and when shotclocks expire.
I'll bring the favors comparison again: Favors was extended in Oct '13 and at the time the cap was at 58.7. His 12million salary was roughly 20.44% of the cap at the time(When his tract kicked in the cap rose unexptedly to 63 because the league made so much money that season pre new tv contract). If we look at this year's 99 million cap, a 15 million salary is 15.15%, a 17 million salary 17.17%. It's not that much for a guy with Hood's qualities and I think he's pretty decent when healthy.(I get the health concerns many cited)

I've never seen or heard anything to suggest that he'd be an issue, aside from Windhorst saying that there was a divide between IT/Jae and the rest of the Cavs from the beginning. But that situation was just dysfunctional.

Had the same thought. Sometimes when they were in I thought we should just run our regular offense... seemed them taking contested jumpers was by design... kind force feed them.
