How did Exum look last night?

I'm glad you are not our GM. That whole paragraph is just wow.
What's wrong with his "style"? You don't like the man-bun? Because his basketball style looks great to me.
Would be age? Is he 33? He's 27!!
If Exum is our starting PG? If? Rubio would play only if Exum gets hurt? WTF?
We cant bring him in to spread the floor? WTF? You know that guy Joe Ingles? He's shooting 44% from 3 in 2018. Rubio is shooting 41% (and 10 of his last 15).
His athleticism will soon be on the decline? On the decline? Soon!!!??? 27 YEARS OLD. Also, how many players on the league rely LESS on his athleticism?

Mitchell Rubio and Exum can share minutes. All 3 are absolutely interchangeable.

Agree, LOPO is basketball clueless. Another non American who only gets to watch games in replay or at 7am.lmao

To clarify, in nearly four seasons, he's missed one whole season and most of the current due to injuries of some sort. For other players, this classifies them as injury prone. Why this doesn't apply to Exum, I have no idea. Granted, knee and shoulder are far apart biologically speaking, but it is what it is. That's nearly 50% of the possible games he could have played in.

For the record, I hope the Jazz re-sign him and I hope he has a long and productive career. But call a spade a spade. That's my last comment on this.

The term injury prone suggests a certain level of accountability on the part of a player. I think that warrants having multiple injuries that result at least partially from the player's play style, or some issue with their body. Exum has had one injury that might contribute towards a declaration of injury prone-ness (the knee). His shoulder injury, however, was 100% out of his control, and entirely the result of TJ Warren being a reckless *******.

There is a line between being injury prone and having had back luck, and it's important to consider the difference when evaluating a player.

I think of injury prone as a guy like Kyrie where every season he misses 20 games... can range to the chandler parsons injury proneness where he has catastrophic knee injuries that take his career. Or the Rodney hood type where they can’t stay on the floor for 10-15 games in a row:

I think Dante has had bad luck... both injuries were contact injuries. His rookie year he played all 82 games... last year he was healthy. He has missed a lot of games but I don’t think he’s made of glass.

It will factor into the equation for sure but I would be much more leery of guys like Parker where it’s a reoccurring injury. I think stephs injury issues were much more serious because it was a flawed body part.

Dante needs to get a little stronger and get more court time to learn how to better protect himself but I think he will have a healthy productive career.

I’d consider Jabari Parker and Steph Curry injury prone before I’d consider Exum injury prone. I think Dante’s body is SO much further along than it was after his rookie year when he hurt the knee.

Dante needs to learn to go hard to the basket without hitting the deck. I’ll feel a lot better about his risk for potential injuries being minimized when he masters that skill. It’s on tape. I’m sure Quin will focus on that this summer.

Exum's ACL was a contact injury?

For sure not. Just typical awkward, out of control landing.

Ya, obviously not. I wouldn't say he's injury prone, since we have a sample of just 1 (the shoulder thing was a freak occurrence). He's also been really durable in the other two seasons. But it is not true that both injuries were on contact.

I think it has all been explained. Some people are trying to determine the risk of future injury when saying he is injury prone. you are kind of just using the definition of what has happened. Both are accurate depending on how you are defining the term. They are just saying slightly different things. I think the most accurate way to say it is that Exum has been injured a lot, but may not be especially injury prone in the future because of the context of the types of injuries he's had.

I'm not sure if the contracts are going to make sense moving forward. It could work from a basketball point of view since all 3 guys are performing well over the last stretch. Exum is going to want to be a starter and probably deserves a chance for a bigger role moving forward (Assuming his recent level is his new normal, or he makes more improvements as a young player). Ricky is also a starting level player and probably wants to stay that way for the next 4-5 seasons at least. Donovan is obviously going to start for the duration of his time here unless something crazy happens. You have to take player happiness into account a little bit in something like this. I don't think Rubio or Exum would be ok with being bench players for the next 4 years.

So the problem ends up becoming an issue of asset allocation at some point where maybe Exum has a 10-15 Million per year deal, and is playing at a similar level to Rubio. Do the Jazz weant to pay for Rubio or do they want to try to fill another hole with a premium FA (like a stretch 4, or a great scorer off the bench)? Do they think Exum might get even better as he gains experience and be a 35-38 MPG player for them? In that case it doesn't make a ton of sense to keep Rubio.

Exum's ACL was a contact injury?

No not really... I just remember there being traffic... meant more in a sense of he was trying to make a strenuous play. Not like Curry where he makes a routine cut with no one around and his ankle gives. Just think there isn't anything structurally wrong that would indicate an issue. His ACL and shoulder injuries could have happened to anyone under similar stress.
